Case for Making Nicosia Green

Earth from the city Nicosia in Cyprus. This lovely green has a slight gritty texture and allows for transparency and lightness. When Nicosia is fully saturated it does look like quite a similar color to French Pale Green! We've included a side by side image so you can see how Nicosia is more transparent and has more texture than French Pale Green. All of our watercolors handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments and natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine and distilled water.

To let you in on the whole story we were actually working on making our own version of Sap Green and Olive revealed itself instead and we were immediately taken! It's deep, luxurious and has a rich velvety feel when it's dry. Don't worry, we're still working on Sap! You can't have too many greens, right? It’s made by fixing a manufactured French mineral pigment to a natural calcium carbonate base, which gives it a soft, velvety matte finish when dry. A natural earth pigment that is lightfast and opaque with slight texture. Umbers are brown or reddish-brown natural earth colors. This pigment consist of iron oxide and manganese oxide and in it's natural form is raw umber. After the pigment is heated, the color becomes darker and richer, transforming into burnt umber.
