Case for Making Burnt Umber Reddish

A natural earth pigment that is lightfast and opaque with slight texture. Umbers are brown or reddish-brown natural earth colors. This pigment consist of iron oxide and manganese oxide and in it's natural form is raw umber. After the pigment is heated, the color becomes darker and richer, transforming into burnt umber. All of our watercolors handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments and natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine and distilled water.

A smooth, opaque and lightfast lake pigment. It’s made by fixing a manufactured French mineral pigment to a natural calcium carbonate base, which gives it a soft, velvety matte finish when dry. The deep, warm burgundy of our dreams! It's rich and earthy, with a magenta undertone that gives it just the right pop! This color contains Carmine pigment, which is not lightfast. Fading can be reduced by coating finished pieces in a UV protective varnish and/or keeping them out of direct sunlight. Thursday, July 30, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PT This is an online workshop held via Zoom. Dorothy Hood was born in 1918 and spent her life in both Mexico and Texas. Her large abstract paintings are full of hard and soft edges, moments where the paint pools and gathers and places where the paint makes crisp lines and angles. Her colors are bold and inspired by the full range of colors found in both Mexico and Texas. With watercolors, we will play with some of Dorothy’s shapes by creating hard edges with tape, letting the watercolors be soft and blend, and create dynamic shapes with layered colors.
