Rebecca has been reflecting on the concepts of fields and hills. Looking out at the horizon, a landscape, or a panoramic view can be comforting. Round shapes are playful and evoke happiness, which is a feeling she always wants at home. She wanted to create something with round shapes, while also referencing the textures of grass, and the result was this pattern. It has movement to it and is airy and textural. This pattern will look great in a large space, like a bedroom or living room.

This pattern was inspired by a picture Rebecca snapped of long grass while visiting Portland, Oregon. Travel heightens awareness of your surroundings and invites discovery. Rebecca remembers these long grasses leaning against one another, layering to create a rich texture. Use this fabric indoors or out. A briar is a prickly shrub and often the word brings to mind wild roses. Rebecca loves that these plants are tough, but also beautiful. They grow along the beach near her childhood home and have survived hurricanes and nor’easters to bloom the next year. Throughout the years, Rebecca has explored long curved shapes in various ways and frequently doodled them in the corners of her notebooks. When she began playing with this linear shape for a woven, she explored how it could capture how a breeze ripples through the spring air. She creates a pattern with movement by repeating this simple mark in varying darkness. Some marks sink back into the ground of the cloth, whereas others pop against the background. We love the contrast in this concept: the result is graphic but evokes the idea of something we can’t see.

Marconi, located on the national seashore in Wellfleet Cape Cod, was the site of the first transatlantic wireless communication in 1903. She loved this idea for a textural woven and redrew the motif, adding the softness of her hand and increasing the size so that it would translate well as a woven.
