The Andes Mountains split into three ranges in Nariño, Colombia, creating a stunning landscape at ideal altitudes for coffee production. On a high ridge in the eastern range, members of the Agrounidos coffee association take advantage of their natural resources to produce some of the best coffees in the region. We work closely with the association every year to select the best lots for Cueva de los Llanos. Look for notes of green grape, almond, and milk chocolate.

Since 2015, we’ve purchased coffee from producers nestled deep in the mountains of Nariño, Colombia. The area has a history of heavy guerrilla activity that, for decades, isolated the community and discouraged collective business efforts. Against all odds, the producers of K’uychi have worked together to improve their farms, conserve their community’s natural resources, and bring us this wonderful coffee. Coffees from the Jaén province’s southwestern districts have historically been bulked into large commodity blends, destined for anonymity. With crucial support from Origin Coffee Lab, we started digging deeper into these areas in 2019. What we found were small coffee-producing communities in and around the remote district of Colasay, producing some of our favorite coffees in Peru. A blend of this year’s selections from those farms, La Viuda bursts with juicy notes of black cherry and white grape. Pronunciation: la…

Counter Culture Coffee - Retail El Batan

El Batan is a small coffee-farming community nestled in the highlands of Loja, Ecuador. This year, four farms from the area approached Roberto Jiménez, our export partner in Ecuador, seeking his help to connect with a buyer for their coffee. When Roberto shared a sample with us, we were immediately impressed by the quality and knew it would be a perfect fit for our Single Origin Subscription program. Each grower carefully harvested and pulped uniformly ripe red coffee cherries, then fermented the coffee for 48 hours––about a day longer than is typical––to enhance fruit flavors in the cup.
