Named by Saveur as the “Best Black Peppercorn for Heat” Our gingery, savory, workhorse-of-the kitchen Robusta Black Peppercorns come from a small farm in Vietnam. They're harvested when the peppercorns are ripe, and their classic, herbaceous, robust flavor captivated us at first grind! They're grown by two friends, Dūng and Thanh, using regenerative integrated agricultural techniques. Vietnam's prized Robusta coffee is intercropped with the pepper vines, which provide shade for the coffee bushes and maybe even pick up a bit of that Robusta flavor. This is your daily black pepper.

Burlap & Barrel Ground Zanzibar Black Pepper
Our Ground Zanzibar Black Pepper delivers a bright, lemony heat with a deep, fruity spice that stands out in any dish. The coarse grind gives you bold pops of flavor and aroma, making it an easy, everyday upgrade to everything you cook. These peppercorns are grown on the lush, sloped hills of Pemba Island, where they thrive among coconut, cinnamon, and clove trees. The island’s sandy soil and dense tropical vegetation produce smaller, more intense peppercorns with exceptional complexity.
Burlap & Barrel Purple Peppercorns
Our vine-ripened Purple Peppercorns are the heirloom Vietnamese variety Vinh Linh, renowned for its strong flavor. These are complex, fruity black peppercorns with an aroma like strawberries and a kick like a jalapeño. They can be used in place of black pepper in any recipe, as well as in desserts or ground over fresh cut fruit. Unlike virtually every other black pepper in the world, these peppercorns are fully ripened on the vine, which requires expertise and commitment from the farmer and produces an exceptionally complex sweet and spicy peppercorn unlike any other we've tasted.
Burlap & Barrel Fermented White Peppercorns
Our savory, funky Fermented White Peppercorns are highly prized in Indonesia but rarely found in the US. They add a deep umami flavor and funk to everything they touch. They're grown on a family farm on the island of Bangka by a farmer named Pak Sugiri and his son, Ilham. The peppercorns are picked fresh and fermented according to traditional methods. Grind over steak to mimic the flavor of dry aging, over veggies for heat and depth, or in traditional Cantonese and southeast Asian dishes that call for white pepper.

They're perfect ground fresh over steamed fish or added whole to stir-fried greens, or as a replacement for Sichuan pepper with a little something extra. Burlap & Barrel Black Urfa Chili
Our Black Urfa Chili comes from Urfa, Turkey, where it has been grown and cured for centuries. It has a rich, malty flavor with a lingering burn. The chilis ripen to a bright red color, then are laid out under sheets in the hot summer sun. This technique cures the pepper in its own juices and gives it a deep umami flavor and beautiful dark color. Great in stews, tomato sauces, salad dressings, chocolate desserts or sprinkled over fluffy scrambled eggs. Please note that the Black Urfa Chili contains a little sunflower oil and may appear to be slightly clumpy or wet.
Burlap & Barrel Cloud Forest Cardamom
Cloud Forest Cardamom is sweet and tart, reminiscent of summer fruits, fresh herbs and cut grass. It comes straightfrom a single-estate regenerative farm in the high-altitude cloud forests of Guatemala. The fruit turns yellow as it ripens on the vine and has a softer and sweeter flavor that makes it a perfect upgrade to standard green cardamom. It is grown on a biodynamic farm, using traditional natural methods. The farm emphasizes workers' rights, sustainability and fair business practices. Looking for ground cardamom? We've got it here. Burlap & Barrel Roasted Curry
This classic Sri Lankan Roasted Curry Powder is made from spices grown on Mr. Roshan's sustainable 50-acre farm in the beautiful town of Matale. It's a deeply aromatic, layered blend that gets its signature flavor from being roasted before grinding. Perfect for hearty dishes like pork stew, roasted meats, vegetarian curries and pots of dark beans. Serve with rice and enjoy! Roasted Curry Powder is also available in our Origin Blends Collection. Burlap & Barrel Smoked Star Anise
Our Smoked Star Anise is picked by hand in the mountains near the border between Vietnam and China. The cold, cloudy weather during the winter harvest means the star anise fruits need to be dried on racks near a wood fire, and they pick up a beautiful hint of smokiness. Add petals to stocks, braised meats, rice, teas and cocktails, or grind them up for desserts and baked goods. Hint hint: Chew on a petal before cooking with it so you can experience the whole range of flavors. It's a wild ride!
Burlap & Barrel Sun-Dried Tomato Powder
Our Sun-Dried Tomato Powder is made from a special tomato variety grown across Turkey's Aegean Sea coastline. Sun-dried tomatoes are a natural source of umami, and this tomato powder adds a bump of rich, umami flavor to any dish. Sauté the powder with aromatics like onions or garlic, use as a garnish on roasted vegetables or add to rubs for grilled meats.
Burlap & Barrel Cinnamon Quills
Our hand-rolled Cinnamon Quills are beautifully fragrant and made just for us from young Cinnamon Verum bark (aka Ceylon cinnamon or "true" cinnamon) by our partners in Sri Lanka. They have an enticing, warm flavor that blooms when heated, and you can use a whole quill in place of a standard cinnamon stick. These quills are perfect for hot beverages, porridge, rice pudding, and savory dishes like braises and stews. Their skinny shape is a mark of incredible skill — each one is hand-rolled and custom-cut to fit in this jar!
Burlap & Barrel Ground Laurel Bay Leaves
Our ground Laurel Bay Leaf is a pure expression of the savory, herbal flavor of the bay leaf. Sourced from the rocky Mediterranean coastline of Turkey, then dried and ground into a powder, it's a versatile alternative to whole bay leaves. U se 1/8 tsp. in place of a whole bay leaf, and there's no need to remove anything from the pot — the powder is edible when ground. Use in soups, stews, for pan-frying or sautéing, and as a rub for roasted meats and veggies.
Burlap & Barrel Chaat Masala
Developed in collaboration with celebrated chef Floyd Cardoz and his wife Barkha , this Chaat Masala was one of Floyd’s favorite blends to keep close at hand. In Indian cooking, chaat masala is all about contrast and excitement, and Floyd loved using it as a finishing touch, especially on grilled foods with a squeeze of fresh lime. This blend is tangy, salty, savory and herbal, with just enough heat to keep things lively. Black salt and amchur bring signature sourness, tamarind adds depth and sweetness and mint and ajwain give it a fresh, aromatic lift.
