We've teamed up with Fender to create this limited-edition pencil set that celebrates the iconic sunburst Fender Stratocaster. When we started making Volumes pencils way back in 2015, we made our attempt at a sunburst pencil. We've learned a few things since then, so we wanted to take another crack at it. Each set comes with 12 pencils featuring a classic sunburst finish. The opaque black ends of the pencil transition to a transparent middle that reveals the natural wood color below.

When we decided to team up with Fender to make a new sunburst pencil , we knew we needed to make a notebook to go with it. Each notebook features a sunburst cover with white Fender Stratocaster imprint on the back and includes 160 blank pages of thick 100 GSM paper. Each notebook also includes a Blackwing x Fender Sunburst Stratocaster pencil with our balanced graphite.

Surrealist artists used an exercise known as Exquisite Corpse to create collaborative poems and works of art composed of pieced-together words and images. We used that same exercise to design a pencil. First, we separated the pencil into five components (graphite, lacquer, imprint, ferrule, eraser). Then, we blindly selected the design for each component and assembled the results. The finished pencil features a rose barrel, teal imprint, silver ferrule, blue eraser and our extra-firm graphite.

Since 1968, New York Magazine has been a bi-weekly destination for life, culture, politics, and crossword puzzles. In the magazine's first year, famed composer Stephen Sondheim contributed a new puzzle each month and, in the years since, New York has been home to some of the best puzzle designers in the world. We teamed up with New York Magazine to design a special crossword puzzle pencil for solving their trickiest word games. Blackwing pencils were favored by award-winning creators throughout the 20th century. Despite a cult following, they were discontinued in the 1990s. Devotees began paying as much as $40 on eBay for a single pencil. In the early 2000s, we used our access to the best wood, graphite and artisan makers in the world to introduce a premium pencil line we called Palomino. The buzz surrounding Palomino led Blackwing fans to ask us to try and bring Blackwing pencils back for a new generation. In 2010, we did just that. The Blackwing Palomino is the second entry into our Blackwing Eras series.
