Our cozy shop is perched just a few blocks uphill from the Pacific Ocean, and we’re so lucky to have a magical seascape on view just outside our door. It may be a blazing blue or (more often) foggy horizon we see, but the colors are always breathtaking. This wonderful palette shares our favorite hues from our coastal home, including our own CfM Poppy, Pacific, and Cypress! Here in the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, we spend a lot of time looking towards the ocean. Our street climbs up from the beach in a gentle rise over a few blocks, so we just have to step out from the shop and our favorite view of the horizon is always there at the bottom of the hill. CfM Horizon harnesses the soft blue/green with a touch of grey that feels so familiar to us out here in the foggy coastal zone near the Bay– a little bit of home in color! This color contains fluorescent pigment, which is not lightfast.

Saturday, July 25, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT. This is an online workshop held via Zoom. I have been obsessed with dolphins since childhood. Their curious, playful natures are fascinating, and their graceful movements are full of joy. Observing them swimming in the San Francisco Bay inspired me to loosen my approach to painting and respond more intuitively to the natural world. In this workshop we’ll explore foundational watercolor techniques such as wet-into-wet, layering, and more, with an emphasis on using minimal, fluid brushstrokes to paint these streamlined creatures.

Thursday, July 30, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PT This is an online workshop held via Zoom. Dorothy Hood was born in 1918 and spent her life in both Mexico and Texas. Her large abstract paintings are full of hard and soft edges, moments where the paint pools and gathers and places where the paint makes crisp lines and angles. Her colors are bold and inspired by the full range of colors found in both Mexico and Texas. With watercolors, we will play with some of Dorothy’s shapes by creating hard edges with tape, letting the watercolors be soft and blend, and create dynamic shapes with layered colors.

This series of paintings was created to celebrate the female purveyors behind the San Francisco restaurant, Flour + Water's, special Women's Month tasting menu. Size 9" x 12" 11 people from our team worked together to collectively create these watercolor paintings, one color mark at a time. Our team is inspired by curiosity, craft and experimentation and we made this series of works in celebration of the visionary women behind each of these beautiful ingredients.
