We were looking for the perfect midpoint between our Cypress and Meadow blends, and we found our winning color in CfM Jade! This uplifting green has a rich opacity with a subtle bright underlay, giving it the deep hues of spring grass. All of our watercolors are handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments, plus natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine, distilled water, and a dash of clove oil for freshness! Their curious, playful natures are fascinating, and their graceful movements are full of joy. Observing them swimming in the San Francisco Bay inspired me to loosen my approach to painting and respond more intuitively to the natural world. In this workshop we’ll explore foundational watercolor techniques such as wet-into-wet, layering, and more, with an emphasis on using minimal, fluid brushstrokes to paint these streamlined creatures.

CfM Oxalis captures the cheery yellow of the California wildflower also known as Woodsorrel, which Bay Area locals might remember from childhood as Sourgrass. Here in San Francisco, Oxalis seems to pop up from every available patch of soil in mid-February, and we wanted to celebrate this annual harbinger of spring! Oxalis flowers make a wonderful, potent natural yellow dye, and CfM Oxalis was inspired by the flower and the slightly more orange dye bath.
