The simple pleasure of dragging a brush across a nice piece of paper never gets old to Rebecca. She loves watching how the paint and water absorb into the parts of a surface and pool in others. Here she was using a wide brush she got when visiting Japan, and the meandering strokes she made reminded her of a river. The long vertical strokes of this pattern add energy and height to a space. Rebecca wanted to design something soft and textural as if she had just slowly moved her brush up and down in small repetitive marks along a wall or across a piece of fabric—which is in fact how she painted this pattern but on a piece of paper. The soft texture created by a brush with only a bit of paint left on it creates a cozy soothing feeling, almost like white noise. Use this pattern like you would a grasscloth or texture. It’s soft and easy to mix with other patterns.

This pattern was inspired by a picture Rebecca snapped of long grass while visiting Portland, Oregon. Travel heightens awareness of your surroundings and invites discovery. Rebecca remembers these long grasses leaning against one another, layering to create a rich texture. She started making a large painting and watched how the shapes connected and overlapped, and how the color could intertwine to create an atmosphere. This pattern adds vertical movement and depth to a space.

Thickets of berry bushes inspired the name for this grasscloth wallcovering. Printed at a slightly larger scale than our Bramble woven fabric, it has a nice texture and a subtle sheen, almost like raw silk. BLUE RIPPLE reads like a cool, glistening body of water; up close you see it’s composed of an array of blues, from navy to teal to cloud blue, with hints of green.

A small vintage fabric cutting Rebecca found in Tokyo, Japan inspired this fabric. It was a small-scale print that read geometric, but also like a floral. She loved this idea for a textural woven and redrew the motif, adding the softness of her hand and increasing the size so that it would translate well as a woven. She thought a lot about the landscape textures and how we need these textures in our home to create the environment that feels best to us. Use this fabric to cover a sofa in a field of flowers, but viewed at a distance for a soft and easy vibe.

This crisp midweight upholstery fabric can create a range of moods depending on the color you choose—from cool ones that give a space a light, breezy feeling to grounded ones that bring warmth. Rebecca wanted each one to look sunwashed. A simple plaid, this design started as a meditative practice to begin a painting session. Rebecca used India Ink, overlaying the same wash of ink to create a basket-like weave. The subtle darkening that occurs when one long stripe crosses over the next was pleasing to watch. Reminiscent of fencing, it calls to mind the different structures we use to tame nature within a garden. The repetition and structure they provide feel settling.
