Rebecca Atwood Designs Marconi Pillow in Multi-Lilac

This happy dash dot pattern started as a mark-making experiment in Rebecca’s sketchbook – she loved how the repetition of these simple shapes combined to create a new pattern. Marconi, located on the national seashore in Wellfleet Cape Cod, was the site of the first transatlantic wireless communication in 1903. The dots and dashes of this pattern reminded Rebecca of the idea of signals being shared across the ocean. This fabric is available as a pillow here .

While visiting Zihuatanejo, Mexico, Rebecca painted playful patterns in her sketchbook inspired by the relaxed vibe of the coastal town. Use this fabric indoors or out. This design began as a larger painting on paper, playing with the shape of a simple flower. Rebecca pushed her brush onto the paper repetitively in different colors to create this field of blooms. After creating the original artwork, she enlarged the scale to add playfulness. For a more abstract layout, use this pattern on smaller pieces, like a pillow, or embrace the garden experience and use it on patio furniture or a kitchen banquette. This pattern was created from an original painting from Rebecca’s sketchbook, which like many of her designs, began as a mark-making exercise. Creating a motif from small dashes and dots is a simple practice that can start on the corner of a notebook during a meeting or a warm-up practice for a painting session. While mark-making is often an exercise Rebecca uses to center herself in the present moment, the results often become the seed of a new design. The radiating lines of this deconstructed floral shape feel celebratory and are sure to bring joy to any space.
