Join Case for Making shop owner Alexis Joseph a 3-hour watercolor paint-making class in our new space! We’ll cover what goes into watercolor medium and why it works so well, along with all the tools and processes necessary to make your own watercolors. We'll also explore synthetic, earth and mineral lake pigments and see how different pigments respond to the paint-making process.

This workshop will focus on a few basics of having and using gouache, I will show how I use gouache, we will touch on some basics around what sets it apart from watercolor, how to build a palette using honey and a watercolor tin and then we will work on paintings using a still life that will be softly lit either inside or outside in the backyard with the changing evening light to work on layering and color mixing.

In this watercolor primer, CfM founder Alexis Joseph starts at the very beginning -- demonstrating how a batch of watercolor paint is made from pure pigment. Once you understand the material, everything else starts to click into place. From there, we'll build together: color wheel, basic brush handling, color mixing, and a series of color charts where you'll practice creating gradations of tints and shades to keep as reference.
