In this watercolor primer, CfM founder Alexis Joseph starts at the very beginning -- demonstrating how a batch of watercolor paint is made from pure pigment. From there, we'll build together: color wheel, basic brush handling, color mixing, and a series of color charts where you'll practice creating gradations of tints and shades to keep as reference.

This workshop will focus on a few basics of having and using gouache, I will show how I use gouache, we will touch on some basics around what sets it apart from watercolor, how to build a palette using honey and a watercolor tin and then we will work on paintings using a still life that will be softly lit either inside or outside in the backyard with the changing evening light to work on layering and color mixing.

CfM Oxalis captures the cheery yellow of the California wildflower also known as Woodsorrel, which Bay Area locals might remember from childhood as Sourgrass. Here in San Francisco, Oxalis seems to pop up from every available patch of soil in mid-February, and we wanted to celebrate this annual harbinger of spring!
