Alder repeats an abstract dripping pattern that reminded Rebecca of the catkins of an alder tree. The single-color print allows the linen ground (ivory or oatmeal, depending on the color) to show through, adding to its textured appearance—almost like a pair of Japanese selvedge jeans. KELP GREEN has yellowy undertones that remind Rebecca of seaweed and make it sunnier than our blue-greens. In this color, Alder appears to be almost swaying or growing underwater. This pattern was inspired by a picture Rebecca snapped of long grass while visiting Portland, Oregon. Travel heightens awareness of your surroundings and invites discovery. Rebecca remembers these long grasses leaning against one another, layering to create a rich texture. She started making a large painting and watched how the shapes connected and overlapped, and how the color could intertwine to create an atmosphere. This pattern adds vertical movement and depth to a space.

Rebecca was thinking about a classic pattern structure of crisscrossing motifs, too. This pattern is organic but structured, a nod to traditional. Use this fabric indoors or out. A briar is a prickly shrub and often the word brings to mind wild roses. Rebecca loves that these plants are tough, but also beautiful. They grow along the beach near her childhood home and have survived hurricanes and nor’easters to bloom the next year. The small crosses also remind her of the first seedlings popping through the dirt when herbs are planted in little pots. This fabric is available as a pillow here .

A simple plaid, this design started as a meditative practice to begin a painting session. Rebecca used India Ink, overlaying the same wash of ink to create a basket-like weave. The subtle darkening that occurs when one long stripe crosses over the next was pleasing to watch. Reminiscent of fencing, it calls to mind the different structures we use to tame nature within a garden. The repetition and structure they provide feel settling.
