This ethereal blue was inspired by atmospheric perspective, and the specific color of mountain ranges fading into the distance. Our atmosphere scatters blue light, which is why objects in the distance appear so blue—the further back they are, the more we see them with reduced clarity, value and color saturation! Like CFM Payne's Grey—Shadow Blue's darker, moodier sibling—CfM Shadow Blue is also a great alternative to black for portraying shadows.

Our response to September 9th, 2020, when smoke and ash from a devastating fire season hovered above the Bay Area marine layer, blocking out the daylight. Custom blended from four of our core pigments, Climate Change is Real represents the color of the sky the day the sun didn't rise. All of our watercolors are handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments, plus natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine, distilled water, and a dash of clove oil for freshness!

Thursday, July 30, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PT This is an online workshop held via Zoom. Dorothy Hood was born in 1918 and spent her life in both Mexico and Texas. Her large abstract paintings are full of hard and soft edges, moments where the paint pools and gathers and places where the paint makes crisp lines and angles. Her colors are bold and inspired by the full range of colors found in both Mexico and Texas. With watercolors, we will play with some of Dorothy’s shapes by creating hard edges with tape, letting the watercolors be soft and blend, and create dynamic shapes with layered colors.
