Like most, this pattern began in Rebecca’s sketchbook. She was playing around with a new small brush and admiring the line quality. She started painting arched shapes that were reminiscent of clouds, which she then explored as a larger painting. We love that patterns can become the backdrop to our lives and help us create an environment. Inspired by the sky, this textural pattern will add atmosphere to a room.

Geranium leaves aren’t your typical leafy vine and are a little quirky. They have personality. Use this pattern to bring the garden inside. Thickets of berry bushes inspired the name for this indoor upholstery-weight fabric. Woven from a soft, nubby cotton-wool blend, each of the colors contains all the pigments Rebecca would use if she were mixing it with her paints. DEWDROP GREEN reminds Rebecca of water beaded on blades of grass. It can appear as a springy blue or green, depending on the light, and is easy to layer with our other blues and greens. This happy dash dot pattern started out as a mark-making experiment in Rebecca’s sketchbook – she loved how the repetition of these simple shapes combined to create a new pattern. Marconi, located on the national seashore in Wellfleet Cape Cod, was the site of the first transatlantic wireless communication in 1903. A simple plaid, this design started as a meditative practice to begin a painting session. Rebecca used India Ink, overlaying the same wash of ink to create a basket-like weave. The subtle darkening that occurs when one long stripe crosses over the next was pleasing to watch. Reminiscent of fencing, it calls to mind the different structures we use to tame nature within a garden. The repetition and structure they provide feel settling. This fabric is intended for indoor use. For our first “solid” fabric, Rebecca wanted something that would be durable and a great basic, but that also made it easier to layer within a color palette—or even build one from. We rarely see flat colors in big swaths in nature. Our natural world is so complex. We see a field of grass, but it’s full of tonal variation and movement. Alder repeats an abstract dripping pattern that reminded Rebecca of the catkins of an alder tree. The single-color print allows our creamy nonwoven fiber paper ground to show through, enhancing its textured appearance. You expect it to feel like a pair of Japanese selvedge jeans when you touch it. CLEAR SKY is a natural partner for our many patterns in midtone blues or a crisp, clarifying backdrop for other colors. Rebecca enjoys working with cut paper. The physicality of creating a shape out of a piece of paper, the way it makes the lines crisper, and the irreversibility of it are some of her favorite aspects of this method. There’s a bit you can’t control as you get going. She had this idea to create a leafy fern design by cutting long leaves out of the marbled papers. The softness of the marble against the graphic cut out leaves creates a pattern within a pattern, a world within a world. With the large repeat, this design has a lot of movement and life.

This unfurling botanical pattern has an air of formality that owes not just to its classical motif but also to its very special texture. Made using a heritage French weaving technique called Liser é , this fabric uses our artisan-dyed warp yarn for the ground and a combination of two mercerized cotton yarns and a slub rayon yarn for the raised vine design.
