“I love chevrons! I cannot get enough. I particularly love how they distort a seemingly straightforward row of knitting into spectacular peaks and valleys. Pair a chevron with the humble stripe and boom! My knitter’s heart beats a little faster. Taking into account that chevrons don’t make a rectangular shape on their own, I have helped them out by filling in the corners. This creates a few extra pieces to knit to make a shape that resembles a sweater, but the end result is a garment that is interesting to knit. Interesting to knit while being all knit!

“This shawl is worked using a modified version of a traditional Shetland construction. In this case stockinette stitch replaces the typical garter stitch used in the center triangle portion of the shawl. As with the traditional method, yarn overs are worked at the beginning of every row creating visual loops, which are then picked up to work the border. “During the design process, my aim was to create a timeless garment containing both traditional and modern features. I chose a diamond motif with moss stitch that I saw in a fisherman’s sweater because not only is it a beautifully textured stitch, but I can also use it either as a single line of diamonds (as in the sleeve) or a line of multiple diamonds (as in the body). Instead of having a traditional vertical line of purl stitches on either side, I used stockinette stitch to encircle the motif to keep the whole design clean and simple.
