“I was inspired to design this cardigan while experimenting with different reversible cable patterns. I wanted to design a light, airy everyday cardigan that would go with everything. The challenge with a piece like this is that wearable often equals ordinary. When I stumbled across this sweet and simple reversible cable, I knew I had found just the thing to bring my design from ordinary to interesting. The addition of reverse stockinette stripes at the hems and the shoulders brings further visual interest by adding a bit of texture and rhythm.

Brooklyn Tweed Intersect

This stunning open-front cardigan is a tour de force of design, with reversible twisted-stitch cables that look equally handsome on both sides of the fabric. For knitters who love a puzzle, Intersect is worked one piece at a time, with stitches for the next section picked up and knit in a new direction. An extra-thorough construction diagram guides you through this unusual garment, identifying each piece and showing how it fits with the others. The skirt flares flatteringly at the hips and the fronts drape and swing beautifully as you move.

Brooklyn Tweed Ondulée

Ondulée is a relaxed dolman cardigan, knit from side to side with rows of knits and purls for a softly corrugated texture, which drapes fluidly in fine-gauge Peerie. The sideways construction makes Ondulée clever in its simplicity — flattering to wear and accessible to knitters of all experience levels. With careful assembly Ondulée is also reversible, defiantly blurring the lines between the right side and wrong side with its clean, exposed seams. This garment in Peerie is worked flat in pieces from side to side.

Brooklyn Tweed Eternity Cardigan

“I love when simple shapes create chic looks. This draped-front garment is merely a rectangle with strategically placed armholes and set-in sleeves. Though it couldn’t be easier to knit, the silhouette is stylish and memorable. Equally suited for an outing in the city or a comfortable Sunday at home, the cardigan quotes stitch patterns from its companion design, the Eternity Scarf by Michele Wang (also featured in our Fall 12 collection).

Brooklyn Tweed Geiger

Ornately cabled and beautifully tailored, this cardigan inspired by Tyrolean jackets invites a full spectrum of styling choices. Medallion cables climb the fronts, sleeves, and back at a diminishing scale, eventually twining into an ornate braid that takes full advantage of Arbor’s excellent stitch definition. German short rows, transitions in background fabric, and traveling columns of ribbing create flattering lines and a precise fit. Twisted-rib button bands perfected with a picot bind-off are just one example of the delights in this pattern that await the advanced knitter.

“This pi shawl gracefully blends Elizabeth Zimmermann’s traditional construction with fresh textures. While many pi shawls employ only lace patterns, this one focuses on rich texture and motion, drawing the eye from the center outward and then around the circumference of the circle as the chevrons point the way. The stitch patterns used are very simple and can easily be memorized, but the resulting fabric is mesmerizing.” – Andrea Rangel Designer: Andrea Rangel Collection: Wool People, Volume…

This rectangular lace stole is worked in two separate halves. The first half is cast on at the outer edge and worked in towards the center. After both halves have been completed, the live stitches from both sides are grafted together invisibly using Kitchener Stitch. Leander begins with twisted rib, morphing into a traveling current of brioche rib shaped to follow a sinuous course by a combination of decorative increases and decreases. This directional shaping also lends gentle curves along the scarf’s outer edges, fluidly framing the neck and the shoulders when draped. Worked in woolen-spun Shelter, Leander makes for a gratifying combination of tactile indulgence and lofty warmth. “I love chevrons! I cannot get enough. I particularly love how they distort a seemingly straightforward row of knitting into spectacular peaks and valleys. Pair a chevron with the humble stripe and boom! My knitter’s heart beats a little faster. Taking into account that chevrons don’t make a rectangular shape on their own, I have helped them out by filling in the corners. This creates a few extra pieces to knit to make a shape that resembles a sweater, but the end result is a garment that is interesting to knit. Interesting to knit while being all knit!
