This smooth, layered pink is both blushy and bold—all the earthy softness of Pink Pipestone, with a bit more depth and minus the grittiness (as paintmaker MJ put it, she's Pink Pipe's less moody younger sister). Think dusty canyons, desert mesas at sunset, and dusky, sweeping sands. This color contains Rouge Vermilion pigment, which is not lightfast. Fading can be reduced by coating finished pieces in a UV protective varnish and/or keeping them out of direct sunlight.

Case for Making French Rose Lake
A smooth, semi-opaque and lightfast lake pigment. It’s made by fixing a manufactured French mineral pigment to a natural calcium carbonate base, which gives it a soft, velvety matte finish when dry. All of our watercolors are handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments, plus natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine, distilled water, and a dash of clove oil for freshness! Case for Making Rouge Vermilion
A deep reddish-pink synthetic formulated to simulate the characteristics of the mineral pigment Vermilion, without the use of mercury. This lovely core color is highly opaque and smooth. True Vermilion is a brilliant red pigment with a rich history of use around the world, from Ancient Rome’s decorative arts, to illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages, to lacquerware in China since the Song dynasty. Vermillion was even used as a cosmetic rouge in ancient West Asia.

Case for Making French Pale Green
A lake pigment that is lightfast and semi-opaque and very smooth to paint with, French Pale Green is made from a French mineral pigment that is fixed to a natural calcium carbonate base which gives these specific lake pigments a soft, velvety and matte finish when dry. We've included a side by side image so you can see how French Pale Green is more smooth and opaque than Nicosia. When Nicosia is fully saturated it does look like quite a similar color to French Pale Green!

Case for Making CfM Cypress Green
When we were developing our Custom Brush Roll Set collab with Gravel & Gold, we found this deep green hue in some of their fabrics. It gave us the perfect excuse to make our own new blended color—named for the iconic trees in our coastal neighborhood! Cypress contains a fair amount of our Indigo paint and some fluorescents, so it’s not completely lightfast. It's quite opaque and can provide a wide range of tones—at its darkest, it appears to be almost black!

A cool, deep purple-brown natural earth pigment with high opacity, lightfastness, and a very consistent and smooth texture with a matte finish. At its most opaque, it's just slightly metallic, thanks to its high concentration of hematite. The pigments we use to make these colors are specific to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountain range. Natural earth pigments have been mined from this region since the mid-1800's, and we think these colors are still unrivaled in intensity and richness.
