The natural beauty of Calacatta and Calacatta Gold marble meets the performance of easy-to-clean textiles in robust and refined Marble placemats. Our design team photographed marble slabs to capture the natural variations and tonal nuances of the Italian stone. These large-scaled compositions were then digitally printed onto a woven base, making each placemat unique and suitable for indoor/outdoor use. Reverses to solid ivory. Our design team began by drawing each rose by hand to ensure the individual nuances would be visible within the weave. As the flowers came to life on the loom, the team experimented with scale, refined the shapes, and fine-tuned the shading to arrive at the extraordinary final design. In Sampler, paired rectangles come together, introducing a distinctive weave as they overlap. This dynamic design is inspired by samplers that were used to learn and demonstrate darning: a sewing technique for repairing holes or worn areas in fabric by replicating the structure of the original material. Dating back to at least the 18th century, these samplers typically covered small pieces of cloth in darning "blocks" of various weave structures in a variety of colors—especially blue, green, red, and yellow yarns—to make intricacies visible and show the weaver's skill.

It is named for a weave structure with a long history and a distinctive construction: as the weft yarn jumps or "shoots" over the foundational plain weave of the warp yarns, a decorative pattern layer is created. This design takes inspiration from vintage American coverlets. Used as the topmost covering on a bed and distinct from quilts, these woven textiles were especially popular during the early to mid- nineteenth century.
