Chilewich Rosette Rugs

Developed in collaboration with Martha Stewart, who has grown roses in her own flower gardens for more than 25 years, Rosette pushes the boundaries of weaving to recreate the abundant blooms of cabbage roses, named for their multitude of petals per blossom. Our design team began by drawing each rose by hand to ensure the individual nuances would be visible within the weave. As the flowers came to life on the loom, the team experimented with scale, refined the shapes, and fine-tuned the shading to arrive at the extraordinary final design.

A new and noteworthy study in materiality, this handwoven rug is crafted from a blend of 70% New Zealand Wool and 30% Silk, giving it a subtle luster and luxurious feel. Its soft, multicolored palette in sophisticated hues of dusty rose, muted sage, soft ivory, and deep indigo, creates depth and dimension amid a barely-there pattern. A tonal whipstitch along the edges adds subtle visual contrast and intrigue. Pile height is 8mm. Handcrafted in a region known for rugs in India, every rug is hand-loomed over weeks at a workshop in Uttar Pradesh.

In Sampler, paired rectangles come together, introducing a distinctive weave as they overlap. This dynamic design is inspired by samplers that were used to learn and demonstrate darning: a sewing technique for repairing holes or worn areas in fabric by replicating the structure of the original material. Dating back to at least the 18th century, these samplers typically covered small pieces of cloth in darning "blocks" of various weave structures in a variety of colors—especially blue, green, red, and yellow yarns—to make intricacies visible and show the weaver's skill.
