Bursts of nature always bring happiness. Small daisies seem to be very resilient flowers that thrive in surprising places. Rebecca often notices them popping out of a crack in the sidewalk or a field by the side of the road. They’re common and unassuming, but cheery. We loved the idea of something small scale that would read texturally from across a room, but offer the same unexpected joy of spotting daisies when viewed up close. A simple plaid, this design started as a meditative practice to begin a painting session. Rebecca used India Ink, overlaying the same wash of ink to create a basket-like weave. The subtle darkening that occurs when one long stripe crosses over the next was pleasing to watch. Reminiscent of fencing, it calls to mind the different structures we use to tame nature within a garden. The repetition and structure they provide feel settling. Rebecca has been reflecting on the concepts of fields and hills. Looking out at the horizon, a landscape, or a panoramic view can be comforting.
