Rebecca Atwood Designs Geraniums Fabric in Green

While revisiting her archive of college artwork, Rebecca found a painting of geranium leaves and was reminded how nice it can be to have something very representational in your space. Geranium leaves aren’t your typical leafy vine and are a little quirky. They have personality. Use this pattern to bring the garden inside. You can be surrounded by houseplants, even if you don’t have lots of natural light.

Rebecca pushed her brush onto the paper repetitively in different colors to create this field of blooms. After creating the original artwork, she enlarged the scale to add playfulness. For a more abstract layout, use this pattern on smaller pieces, like a pillow, or embrace the garden experience and use it on patio furniture or a kitchen banquette. Use this fabric indoors or out. We love a stripe. You can’t go wrong adding one to a space, and they can be a great way to tie together a color palette. Rebecca painted the original artwork for this pattern to test some colors she had mixed. She loved how this stripe turned out, and it reminded her how a thin stripe can be so easy to layer with anything. Stripes are also a great way to bring in color, whether tonal shades of green like the original she painted or a multi-colored palette. This colorway is available while supplies last.

Use this fabric indoors or out. A small vintage fabric cutting Rebecca found in Tokyo, Japan inspired this fabric. It was a small-scale print that read geometric but also like a floral. She loved this idea for a textural woven and redrew the motif, adding the softness of her hand and increasing the size so that it would translate well as a woven. She thought a lot about landscape textures and how we need these textures in our homes to create the environment that feels best to us. Use this fabric to cover a sofa in a field of flowers, but viewed at a distance for a soft and easy vibe.

A simple plaid, this design started as a meditative practice to begin a painting session. Rebecca used India Ink, overlaying the same wash of ink to create a basket-like weave. The subtle darkening that occurs when one long stripe crosses over the next was pleasing to watch. Reminiscent of fencing, it calls to mind the different structures we use to tame nature within a garden. The repetition and structure they provide feel settling. Designed to coordinate with our Bubbles mural to continue the pattern onto a ceiling, this subtle print looks equally lovely on its own. It calls to mind fading seafoam or falling grains of sand, but without the larger mural for context it can also read as floating specks of dust, snow flurries, or tiny drops of beaded rain, all softly illuminated and suspended in motion. Alder repeats an abstract dripping pattern that reminded Rebecca of the catkins of an alder tree. The single-color print allows our creamy nonwoven fiber paper ground to show through, enhancing its textured appearance. You expect it to feel like a pair of Japanese selvedge jeans when you touch it. PALE GOLDENROD is stronger than butter yellow, but it has a faded quality that makes it softer than our other goldenrods. Use it in place of natural linen to bring sunshine into a space.
