Rebecca wanted to design something soft and textural as if she had just slowly moved her brush up and down in small repetitive marks along a wall or across a piece of fabric—which is in fact how she painted this pattern but on a piece of paper. The soft texture created by a brush with only a bit of paint left on it creates a cozy soothing feeling, almost like white noise. Use this pattern like you would a grasscloth or texture. It’s soft and easy to mix with other patterns. The finish has a slight sheen that reflects light beautifully.

Rebecca pushed her brush onto the paper repetitively in different colors to create this field of blooms. After creating the original artwork, she enlarged the scale to add playfulness. A small vintage fabric cutting Rebecca found in Tokyo, Japan inspired this fabric. It was a small-scale print that read geometric but also like a floral. She loved this idea for a textural woven and redrew the motif, adding the softness of her hand and increasing the size so that it would translate well as a woven. She thought a lot about landscape textures and how we need these textures in our homes to create the environment that feels best to us. Use this fabric to cover a sofa in a field of flowers, but viewed at a distance for a soft and easy vibe.

Alder repeats an abstract dripping pattern that reminded Rebecca of the catkins of an alder tree. The single-color print allows our creamy nonwoven fiber paper ground to show through, enhancing its textured appearance. You expect it to feel like a pair of Japanese selvedge jeans when you touch it. PALE GOLDENROD is stronger than butter yellow, but it has a faded quality that makes it softer than our other goldenrods. Use it in place of natural linen to bring sunshine into a space.

This woven quality reminds Rebecca of needlepoint. Her great-aunt Libby was an avid needle-pointer and growing up, she had needlepoint seat cushions at her dining table, and little framed pieces hanging on the wall. Rebecca wanted to explore something graphic because the weave is so textural. She looked to small, geometric, vintage patterns – like the ones you’d find on the inside of a book cover. Designed to coordinate with our Bubbles mural to continue the pattern onto a ceiling, this subtle print looks equally lovely on its own. It calls to mind fading seafoam or falling grains of sand, but without the larger mural for context it can also read as floating specks of dust, snow flurries, or tiny drops of beaded rain, all softly illuminated and suspended in motion.
