Rebecca Atwood Designs Scribble Fabric in Gray

Rebecca wanted to design something soft and textural as if she had just slowly moved her brush up and down in small repetitive marks along a wall or across a piece of fabric—which is in fact how she painted this pattern but on a piece of paper. The soft texture created by a brush with only a bit of paint left on it creates a cozy soothing feeling, almost like white noise. Use this pattern like you would a grasscloth or texture. It’s soft and easy to mix with other patterns.

Pulled from Rebecca’s sketchbook, Speckled is a foundational pattern that adds quiet but evocative movement. Created by layering small brushmarks over an ink wash ground, it captures the movement of natural landscapes shaped by time. The subtle swirled direction of the marks references seeds dispersed by the wind, stones pushed onto the shore by waves, and dappled light filtering through leaves. She started painting arched shapes that were reminiscent of clouds, which she then explored as a larger painting.
