Blackwing Labs are small batch pencil releases that offer a fun look at our design process. The results may see us experimenting with new features, or putting new spins on old favorites. Each pencil will be foil stamped with the date of the release, and each box will be numbered by batch. Our first Blackwing Labs release is Lab 11.27.20. With this Lab, we’re experimenting with holographic variants. The standard design features a grey barrel, black ferrule, black clip, black eraser, black imprint, and balanced graphite.

LAB 11.29.24 is the tenth installment in our Labs series. With this Lab, we’re experimenting with a triangular shape that's easy to grip and won’t roll off a desk. Keith Haring was one of the most renowned of the young artists of the 1980s. Inspired by the graffiti artists whose marks covered the city’s subway cars, Haring began to draw in white chalk over the black paper used to cover vacant advertising panels. When the Preservation Hall was founded in the 1960s, its mission was to preserve the living tradition of New Orleans jazz music. They've done so through the nightly ritual of intimate acoustic performances held at the Preservation Hall and at similar venues around the world.
