The ocean is a constant source of inspiration for Rebecca who grew up on Cape Cod. This lighthearted watercolor painting began in Rebecca’s sketchbook after a trip to Japan. She was reminded that even when we travel far away, there are elements that are familiar to all of us.

Our painterly take on a classic checkerboard motif, it’s meant to be layered with other patterns. It’s simple enough to serve as a tonal base layer, and striking enough to make a statement on its own.

This pattern was meant to capture the joy of finding little patches of beauty in unexpected places. Rebecca painted the original artwork while working on a series of ideas for florals and drew inspiration for this iteration from the pop of color wildflowers bring to a grassy field and the charm of city flowers that manage to bloom through a crack in the concrete. The fun textures and colors of this vintage-feeling fabric make it ideal for layering. The raised embroidery is a twisted, more organic take on a French knot motif; think of them like the centers of flowers that have lost their petals. The simple contrasting shades just feel easy together as a charming finishing touch.

Rebecca Atwood Designs Floret Pillow in Graphite
Household

Rebecca Atwood Designs Floret Pillow in Graphite

A small vintage fabric cutting Rebecca found in Tokyo, Japan inspired this fabric. It was a small-scale print that read geometric but also like a floral. She loved this idea for a textural woven and redrew the motif, adding the softness of her hand and increasing the size so that it would translate well as a woven. She thought a lot about landscape textures and how we need these textures in our homes to create the environment that feels best to us. Use this fabric to cover a sofa in a field of flowers, but viewed at a distance for a soft and easy vibe.
