“When designing, I like bringing contemporary shapes and traditional techniques together – in this case, using a bit of old school colorwork to trim a more modern hat shape. The trim pattern is repeated again – with a twist – in the crown’s 6-pointed star motif. Choose two highly contrasting colors for a bold, graphic look, or two subtle tones for an understated nod to tradition.

Brooklyn Tweed Treefolds

Enjoy texture, both quiet and luxurious, with the Treefolds Hat. Allover cables developed as a modern take on traditional Tree of Life cable patterns is the highlighting feature of this stately hat. Trees abstracted into diamonds are created by zigzagging cable panels placed next to each other in mirroring directions. Blending seamlessly with these cable crosses are fully-fashioned double decreases at the crown, which result in a uniquely geometric design at the top of the hat.

Brooklyn Tweed Andraos

Like the marbled top of a Parisian confection, the slanted checkerboard of the Andraos hat is simply scrumptious. Using stranded colorwork techniques and controlled color dominance, this hat is a showstopper in both solids and marls. Opt for high–contrast colors for a dramatic statement or tone it down with related colorways to complement any ensemble. Rounding out this design are a gathered crown and deep brim — the real icing on the cake of this new classic. Designer: Christelle Nihoul Collection: Wool People, Volume 14 Share on social…

Complete your alpine ensemble with the High Pines Cowl’s counterpart, the High Pines Hat. Branching half-twisted rib and shifting knit and purl texture take full advantage of Arbor’s springy construction, resulting in harmonic stitchwork resembling a jovial woodland scene. Precisely placed decreases help the motifs converge seamlessly at the crown — a star to adorn one’s head. This hat is worked circularly from the bottom up. Brooklyn Tweed Kitelines

" This sweet hat pattern features a delicate, geometric stitch worked in two colors that reminds me of little kites. The small bi-color diamonds are formed using a unique ‘dip’ stitch maneuver that creates a subtly textured fabric with tiny eyelets that keep the fabric breathable and light. The hat can be worked in child or adult size, and styled as a standard beanie or blocked over a round form (like a salad plate) for a beret variation. The star-shaped crown design integrates seamlessly into the Kitelines stitch pattern for a sophisticated finish, regardless of your chosen variation.

This pattern is written with optional brim shaping to lower the earflap and neck length for a warmer version. This shaping is done early in the pattern through the use of short rows. Follow the instructions for your chosen style during that section. The pattern is also shown with an accent color trim at base of brim (Soot version). If you wish to add this accent, you will need a few yards of yarn in an alternating color to begin your hat. Designer: Jared Flood Collection…

“Conceptually, I wanted this hat to be as big and chunky as possible – making a statement without becoming a helmet. I kept adding more and more strands of yarn (ultimately using four) to achieve just the right fabric I was after. A turned-hem brim and simple cable repeat completes the look. You can wear this hat pushed back to create some fashionable slouch or pulled down snugly over the forehead for more warmth.” – Julie Hoover Designer: Julie Hoover Collection: Fall…

Brooklyn Tweed Cetus

At the junction of agile stitchwork and intuitive fun lies the richly textured Cetus Hat. Here you’ll find a balanced combination of garter stitch and mock cable columns — rather like gilded onlay — growing out of slip stitch ribbing and cable trusses to converge into a relaxed slouch and rosette crown. And for those of you who enjoy clever tricks in your toolbox: a round of knits bisects the ribbing to form a crease that helps the brim turn up for comfortable double-warmth at the ears.

Brooklyn Tweed Sandness

“This shawl is worked using a modified version of a traditional Shetland construction. In this case stockinette stitch replaces the typical garter stitch used in the center triangle portion of the shawl. As with the traditional method, yarn overs are worked at the beginning of every row creating visual loops, which are then picked up to work the border. Sandness is intended as a bigger cousin companion to my Norby beanie as they share the same textured pattern.

Brooklyn Tweed Rook

“During the design process, my aim was to create a timeless garment containing both traditional and modern features. I chose a diamond motif with moss stitch that I saw in a fisherman’s sweater because not only is it a beautifully textured stitch, but I can also use it either as a single line of diamonds (as in the sleeve) or a line of multiple diamonds (as in the body). Instead of having a traditional vertical line of purl stitches on either side, I used stockinette stitch to encircle the motif to keep the whole design clean and simple. The sweater is knit top down.

A good Pi Shawl is always welcome in my knitting bag. This type of construction, developed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in the 1950’s, is a perfect balance between mindless and attentive knitting. Upon completion of Chart A, the entire shawl will have only 4 total shaping rounds remaining. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this project will fly off your needles!
