Knit a floaty open-front cardigan to layer over dressy or casual outfits as you enjoy the last of the soft weather. This study in the intersection of curved and angular lines uses innovative seamless construction to form a strikingly graceful back. The graphic garter rib elements shift and slope with precisely placed decreases, and an unusual bottom-up construction brings the fronts up and over the shoulder to create a strong central spine of joinery bind-off, like the wales of a boat meeting at the keel.

Brooklyn Tweed Riverbend
A boxy, open-gauge cardigan in Quarry: the ultimate in slouchy comfort that doesn’t sacrifice good looks. Riverbend’s hem is shaped with short rows so that the back is several inches longer than the cropped fronts. The deep V of the neckline makes it easy to layer. All pieces are knit flat, and we chose to assemble them with the purl side facing out, but instructions are also given for exposing the traditional knit side if you prefer. Two options are given for resolving the short rows so that they’ll be least visible on the public side of your garment, whichever side you’d like that to be.

Brooklyn Tweed Mei
An open-front cardigan in Quarry with a dramatic ribbed collar adds a note of cozy chic to your wardrobe. Three-quarter length sleeves balance the volume of the ribbed lapels, which are shaped with short rows worked at the ends of the collar rather than around the neck. Exaggerated drop shoulders create a flattering curve and seam detail at the upper arm. Opt for tubular edges for a professional finish or substitute your favorite standard method for a sweater you can knit up in a flash. The pieces are knit flat and the collar is worked on stitches picked up after seaming.

Brooklyn Tweed Carpeaux
This dramatic open cardigan makes the most of deeply textured brioche stitch. The blanket fronts are adorned with reversible cables and hang with a flattering tilt, thanks to architectural back shaping. Carpeaux is knit from Shelter in one piece to the underarms, with sleeves knit circularly to the caps and then seamed in. The cables are charted, and thoughtful details like garter stitch selvedges and tubular edging give this garment professional polish. Designer: Jared Flood Collection: Winter…

Brooklyn Tweed Stonehaven
Commit to coziness in a voluminous batwing cardigan knit from Quarry. Multidirectional construction makes for an engaging knit and a visually intriguing garment; the staggered columns of welts and eyelets form an allover scale pattern that shifts direction as you work the sleeve panels upward from the cuffs, then pick up stitches to knit the back and fronts downward after shaping the shoulders with short rows. A wide band of double ribbing lets the fronts hang gracefully open.

Brooklyn Tweed Skew
Wrap up in cozy style. This graphic cardigan translates all the energy and impact of striped triangular shawls into an eminently wearable blanket-front sweater. Skew is worked top down from the neck ribbing, then front stitches are put on hold while you establish the triangle at the back. Then the whole yoke is worked at once, stitches are set aside for the sleeves, and the work continues to the ribbed hem. All the back increases are completed at the center to maintain the chevrons, but balanced by decreases at the sides so that the fronts are not angled.

Brooklyn Tweed Decq
The elegance and interest of the Decq cardigan lies in its understated box shape and studious neckline. Interlocking cross-hatched departures and forked chevrons dazzle the eye, enriched by the understated smoothness of stockinette sleeves. Delineated by clever, staggered purl stitches, the written and charted pattern repeat roves back and forth in movements both sharp and sinuous. With just enough seams to lend structure, Decq finishes smoothly with sleeves picked up and knit in the round to the cuff. This cardigan is sure to delight in any setting.

Brooklyn Tweed The Author
"This cozy sweater beautifully blends the comfort of a classic oversized cardigan with thoughtful design details to create a flattering and easy-to-wear garment. The deep raglan yoke enhances both comfort and ease of movement, while the trim length of the lower body maintains a clean silhouette. A curved hem, crafted with short rows, allows the cardigan to sit slightly lower at the back for a tailored fit. The wide, blousy sleeves offer freedom of movement, tapering dramatically at the wrists for a sleek, flattering finish. Tailoring darts at the waist and back neck further refine the fit.

Brooklyn Tweed Shoji
Wrap up two elegant ways in the same cocoon cardigan. With the ribbed edge upward, Shoji features a shawl collar, three-quarter length sleeves, and a garter hem deeply split into tails at the center back. Turn it upside down and the fronts hang with an intriguing zigzag, the sleeves bare your elbows, and the ribbing curves gracefully below hip length. The knitting is simplicity itself: a long rectangle of pebbled texture folded and sewn into the final shape, with stitches picked up for the double-ribbed collar after assembly.

Brooklyn Tweed Hilt
Knitting sideways opens up new possibilities. This cabled cardigan begins at the cuffs and grows toward the center line, exploring lateral texture and negative space. Braided horseshoe motifs play across the body and dolman half sleeves but leave the shoulders intriguingly accented by the calm of reverse stockinette. Details like garter stitch cuffs turned at an unexpected angle and an exposed bind-off at the center back highlight the unusual construction, while a continuous band of garter stitch makes a clean and practical finish to the fronts. Brooklyn Tweed Channel Cardigan
“This cozy cardigan is equally suited for curling up at home in your PJ’s, or for a stylish, layered look while on the go. The body is adorned with classic knit-and-purl patterns—moss stitch punctuated with chevron insertions—while the button bands and shawl collar are worked in a supple English Rib pattern (also known as “half brioche” stitch). The garment is partially seamless, from hem/cuff to underarm. The raglan yoke for each piece is then worked flat and seamed upon completion.

Brooklyn Tweed Svalbard
“This cardigan was inspired by a desire to play with volume and drape in combination with a strong, architectural stitch pattern and clean, flattering details. The deep, bell-like swoop of the bottom hem is balanced by the tailored shoulders and three-quarter length sleeves, and both are complimented by the soft falls of the fronts and shawl collar. Add to this an interesting take on traditional raglan shaping, and you have a cardigan that’s both intriguing to knit and effortless to wear!” – Bristol Ivy Designer: Bristol Ivy Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Brooklyn Tweed Counterpane
For knitters who love a geometric puzzle, this study in modular asymmetry will keep the brain and the needles busy. Constructed in squares and triangles worked from the edges inward, Counterpane uses bands of stockinette, garter, and brioche to create three-dimensional texture as well as arresting diagonal lines. Each section is worked on stitches picked up from the previous square and newly cast on. The sleeve cuffs achieve a subtle bloused form by echoing the brioche and garter bands of the blocks. Brooklyn Tweed Driftwood
Driftwood is the perfect knockaround sweater for fall – with an oversized fit, luxurious ribbed turtleneck and a soft, squishable stitch pattern, you’ll love wearing this at home or on the go. Because the Loop Stitch is denser than regular stockinette stitch, you will work the body fabric of the garment on a larger-than-average needle for a worsted weight yarn; this is necessary to create the supple cushion-like fabric that makes this sweater so irresistible. Brooklyn Tweed Roko
"The thick strands of both Arbor Lodge and Quarry are ideal for oversized cables and this quality was the starting inspiration point for this vest. Invested with a heavy dose of classic fisherman sweater vibes, these cables are plumped up to an almost cartoonish degree, and lend a light-hearted air to an easy-going layering piece." — designer, Lis Smith Quarry Barn Owl sample photographed with Grooves Cap by Jared Flood. Brooklyn Tweed Loess
“The inspiration for Loess came from my life on Île de Ré, an island off the west coast of France — very wild and natural, with a little smell of sea spray. This stole is light, soft, and worked with bands of crisply defined patterning.” – Christine de Castelbajac Riffles of openwork and crossed stitches punctuate the smooth surface of stockinette in this elegant, modern scarf. The pattern offers two sizes, a small scarf and a generous wrap.

Brooklyn Tweed Natsumi
Worked left to right from a provisional cast on, this pullover showcases a single bold cable flanked by delicate eyelets. The gracefully curved back hem and shoulders are shaped as you knit the body, and the three-quarter length sleeves are worked flat and top-down from live stitches. After joining the two sides and seaming the sleeves, the ribbed hem is then picked up and knit to complete the garment.

Brooklyn Tweed Sandness
“This shawl is worked using a modified version of a traditional Shetland construction. In this case stockinette stitch replaces the typical garter stitch used in the center triangle portion of the shawl. As with the traditional method, yarn overs are worked at the beginning of every row creating visual loops, which are then picked up to work the border. Sandness is intended as a bigger cousin companion to my Norby beanie as they share the same textured pattern.

Brooklyn Tweed Leaves of Grass
A good Pi Shawl is always welcome in my knitting bag. This type of construction, developed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in the 1950’s, is a perfect balance between mindless and attentive knitting. Upon completion of Chart A, the entire shawl will have only 4 total shaping rounds remaining. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this project will fly off your needles! Named after the stunning collection of poetry by American poet Walt Whitman, these pretty motifs remind me of the Spring Thaw and the plant life that returns after Winter’s end. Brooklyn Tweed Tundra
A top-down Quarry yoke patterned with large leaves makes a deeply satisfying knit and a cozy garment that will become a winter favorite. The cabled motif smoothly incorporates some of the yoke increases within the structure of the “veins,” so read the chart closely. Subtle details — unusual hem and cuff treatments combining rib and stockinette; tiny reversible cables carried up from the yoke design into the ribbed turtleneck at the center front — strike just the right notes. Tundra is designed to fall to the low hip, so choose a size that allows freedom of movement.
