Tech meets tradition. Futuristic stranded colorwork distinguishes this pullover, knit in two colors of Loft. The pixelated motif of interlocking diamonds creates a gradient shift from dark to light, highlighting broad shoulders (and knitting skills.) Carbon is worked in the round with steeks at the armholes, and the folded contrast hem provides a canvas for an optional secret message: a charted alphabet and numerals are included in the pattern. The set-in sleeves are worked circularly to armholes, with flat caps that are sewn in once the steeks have been cut.

Brooklyn Tweed Rowlock
The ever-so-slightly cropped Rowlock sweater is modishly refreshing. Knit flat in pieces from bottom to top with no body shaping to contend with, Rowlock offers a clean slate upon which shapes can play. Arbor yarn and its supreme stitch definition lends itself beautifully to each knit, purl, and cable twist, enhancing the allover geometric motif that works its way across the body and sleeves. Traditional ribbing at the hem and cuffs riff off of the garter stitch at the neck, keeping this beguiling pullover feeling casual, cool and incredibly wearable.

Brooklyn Tweed Breton
“This pullover is an homage to the classic Breton Shirt – an iconic mainstay of 20th century nautical fashion. I knit mine with two colors that feature high value contrast to emphasize the graphic nature of the striping pattern, though your own experimentation with color is, as always, encouraged! Knit in Loft, Breton is great for layering under jackets to add that extra “something” to an outfit as the bold stripes peek through, or on its own as a graphic piece that isn’t overstated.

The thermal pullover takes on a bold new look when rendered at an exploded scale in Quarry. The classic woodsman’s waffle weave forms a geometric grid at this large gauge and is worked from a four-row pattern that’s easily memorized. Deschutes is knit flat in pieces and sewn with partially exposed seams for rustic detail. Roomy sleeves are set in to ensure a tidy fit around the shoulders to balance the straight lines of the torso. Fletching is worked in Shelter from the single-ribbed hem and cuffs upward, entirely in the round and from written instructions only. Long lines and waist shaping make this pullover elegant as well as comfortable.

Brooklyn Tweed Tavola
Tavola takes the staple boxy pullover and adds to it the joy of color and texture. Its silhouette remains simple to provide an ample canvas for graphic “striping” that is both intriguing and satisfying to work. Alternating between two colors every other row while alternating between blocks of knits and purls across the rows creates a visual effect rather like brickwork. This motif is carried through the sleeves, while the hems, cuffs, and upper chest remain in a single color for a color blocked effect. Exposed seams at the shoulders complement the piece’s architectural flair.

Brooklyn Tweed Leaves of Grass
A good Pi Shawl is always welcome in my knitting bag. This type of construction, developed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in the 1950’s, is a perfect balance between mindless and attentive knitting. Upon completion of Chart A, the entire shawl will have only 4 total shaping rounds remaining. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this project will fly off your needles! Named after the stunning collection of poetry by American poet Walt Whitman, these pretty motifs remind me of the Spring Thaw and the plant life that returns after Winter’s end. Brooklyn Tweed Crag
Rhythmic all-over cables in Shelter produce a handsome, seaworthy cap that’s quick and satisfying to knit. After a short band of 1 x 1 rib, the hat breaks into a geometric motif of interlocking tiered cables. Perfect for knitters who have tried some basic cables and feel ready for more challenge, the charts are predictable and easy to memorize. The pattern includes a modification for a slightly shorter beanie length. Deep texture means the pattern won’t be lost in dark colors, so this design is a good choice for Cast Iron, Soot, Artifact, Old World, or Plume.

Brooklyn Tweed Trestle
“I love chevrons! I cannot get enough. I particularly love how they distort a seemingly straightforward row of knitting into spectacular peaks and valleys. Pair a chevron with the humble stripe and boom! My knitter’s heart beats a little faster. Taking into account that chevrons don’t make a rectangular shape on their own, I have helped them out by filling in the corners. This creates a few extra pieces to knit to make a shape that resembles a sweater, but the end result is a garment that is interesting to knit. Interesting to knit while being all knit!

Brooklyn Tweed Auden
“This design draws inspiration from both the new and old. I was intrigued by the modernity and drape of an oversized dolman tee, and I also loved the soft femininity of the simple, delicate prints of liberty cotton and vintage summer dresses. This pullover combines the two into the best of both worlds: a gentle, fern-like, allover cable motif joins with a loose and wonderfully drapey shape to create the perfect spring or summer sweater.” – Bristol Ivy Designer: Bristol Ivy Collection: Wool People, Volume…
