Watch the flyways while wrapped in a light and pretty demilune shawl. Paddock Shawl’s arcs of lengthening lozenges, expanding with concentric increases according to Elizabeth Zimmermann’s half-pi method, form a richly textured plumage. The garter-based fabric has no wrong side, and the half-circle shape laps the shoulders comfortably and stays in place. Slipped garter selvedges create a smooth and tidy top edge; block out scalloped points or leave the trailing edge straight according to your preference.

Brooklyn Tweed Perch
Drape yourself in timeless texture with the Perch Shawl, a triangular half hap in featherweight Loft. Perch begins at its center point with Old Shale lace that then grows outward rather like alluvial fans. This motif is interrupted by regular intervals of stockinette, creating rippling bands that look handsome from both right and wrong sides. Concentrated at the edges are yarnover increases for width. This placement omits the center spine found in most triangular shawls, allowing the motif to traverse the full expanse of the fabric, to be finished with a prim and elegant yarnover edging.

Brooklyn Tweed Lunette
Lace butterflies skirt this shawl and sweep up the center in a merry flock. The knitting begins with a large cast-on for the full length of the trailing edge. A line of eyelets creates an effect reminiscent of crochet. The scalloped edge motifs soften the triangular inner forms into an organic deep crescent that naturally wraps your shoulders and hangs prettily in place without the aid of a pin. This is piquant lace knitting, with no “resting rows” between lace maneuvers in many of the charts. Directions are given for four sizes; the two smallest can be worked from a single skein of Plains.

Brooklyn Tweed Shoal
Plot your course with Shoal, an ever familiar triangular shawl made anew with a unique asymmetrical side-to-side construction. Then, watch seas of garter stitch, plunging waves, and the wings of waterfowl come together in a beautiful triumvirate, balancing textural and openwork stitches for a beautiful seascape to drape about your shoulders. This shawl is worked flat from the upper right point to the opposite side; the lace motif is worked from charts only. The Vale and Peerie versions are worked from the same charts and instructions, at differing gauges.

Brooklyn Tweed Linocut
The inscribed lines of lacework within the graphic Linocut shawl evoke the deep carvings of this traditional printmaking technique. Featuring a modular motif too alluring to limit to one shape, this pattern comes written and charted for both a triangle shawl and a rectangular wrap in two sizes. Elegant three-dimensional geometry cuts a field of raised garter lace throughout, echoing the dip and curve of traditional horseshoe cables. An optional Icelandic Bind Off accentuates Peerie ’s plump stitches and gives your lace space to shine.

Brooklyn Tweed Peregrine
Light as a feather and a fan, Peregrine is mild and unassuming yet cloaked in intricate detail begging to take flight. A clever half-drop pattern variation on the traditional old shale motif makes for a delightful overall ogee lace effect that sweeps right up to the edges of the shawl. The resulting natural undulations produce delicate plumes to frame the face and shoulders. This shawl is worked flat from the top down in lace-weight Vale, starting with a garter tab cast on. The lace motifs are worked from charts only. Designer: Stella Ackroyd Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Brooklyn Tweed Tree Rings
“This pi shawl gracefully blends Elizabeth Zimmermann’s traditional construction with fresh textures. While many pi shawls employ only lace patterns, this one focuses on rich texture and motion, drawing the eye from the center outward and then around the circumference of the circle as the chevrons point the way. The stitch patterns used are very simple and can easily be memorized, but the resulting fabric is mesmerizing.” – Andrea Rangel Designer: Andrea Rangel Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Angles and etchings break the plane of expectation, bisecting perpendicular points of contact and balancing moments of more with less. Plump vertical brioche conspires with tidy crosshatches of garter stitch for a pleasing intersection of linear texture. Deliciously springy in Peerie ’s 100% American Merino, Ielle is a shawl for all — transcending gender and rejecting limitations. Designer: Evgeniya Dupliy Collection: Frames Share on social…

Brooklyn Tweed Kindling
This deep and well-proportioned triangle shawl works outward from a twisted-stitch variation of a traditional garter tab. Textured arrows of reverse stockinette flow down both sides into a unique four-stitch textured border that is also reflected around the center spine. Originally written for use with a double strand of Loft or a single strand of Shelter, Kindling is a light and rustic layer to float over a winter coat.

Brooklyn Tweed Moon & Stars
“This half-circle shawl is knitted in one piece from the top down, composed of Moon and Stars. The double garter stitch Moon motif is achieved by using the double-point sliding technique alternating Strand A and Strand B, knit every row. The double garter stitch makes the fabric light, soft and puffy. The first Stars motif is a 5-into-5 lace stitch, and the second Stars motif is 5-into-3 lace stitch. The shawl is finished with double garter stitch edging to echo the Moon motif.” − Shui Kuen Kozinski Designer: Shui Kuen Kozinski Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Knit a breezy complement to summer dresses in Vale or a slightly larger triangle with comforting weight and warmth in Arbor. The arrowhead lace edging combines garter stitch and eyelets to achieve a flintknapped texture. Brooklyn Tweed Roko
"The thick strands of both Arbor Lodge and Quarry are ideal for oversized cables and this quality was the starting inspiration point for this vest. Invested with a heavy dose of classic fisherman sweater vibes, these cables are plumped up to an almost cartoonish degree, and lend a light-hearted air to an easy-going layering piece." — designer, Lis Smith Quarry Barn Owl sample photographed with Grooves Cap by Jared Flood. A ribbon of zigzag lace with a yarnover selvedge forms the foundation for this pretty triangular shawl. Brooklyn Tweed Willamette
For gorgeous gift knitting, try Willamette, a deeply textured scarf with a reversible motif of cabled diamonds over garter stitch. There’s a chart for the A side and another for the B side; alternate knitting a row from each and you’ll end up with a beautifully patterned fabric that’s different but equally arresting on both sides. Willamette is active knitting with cables on every row, but the geometric motifs are predictable and easy to track. The pattern can be worked in Shelter for oversized coziness or in Loft for a scarf of more traditional scale.

Brooklyn Tweed Stroopwafel Cardigan
"This quick-knitting cardigan makes the most of round, multi-ply yarns with smooth definition. The chunky gauge of the fabric turns up the volume on the many knitterly details stashed throughout the project. A simple allover garter rib pattern forms the basis for strong architectural shaping details, all of which are worked with decorative double-decreases that keep the rib pattern unbroken throughout and highlight unique design lines. The compound raglan yoke creates a comfortable fit through the shoulders and the easy-to-work stand-up collar creates a cozy finish.
