This hat was conceived as the gentlest possible introduction to stranded colorwork. Only six rounds (eight rounds, if you choose the largest of the three sizes) require the use of two colors, and these rounds alternate colors on every stitch to take the guesswork out of tensioning correctly. The color combinations you can create from the Loft palette are practically endless: choose a light, a medium or bright, and a dark value and you’re off to the races. Further customize your Seeds by selecting your preferred ribbing pattern for a stretchy edging.

Brooklyn Tweed Dovera

Woolen spun Loft yarn adds texture and depth to the artful colorwork in the Dovera hat. With subtle beret-like shaping integrated into an intricate stranded motif, Dovera will satisfy experienced knitters and colorwork novices alike. The airiness of fingering-weight Loft creates a sturdy yet lightweight fabric that will keep its shape through plenty of wear. The Dovera hat is knit in the round from the brim to the crown, which is shaped with decreases that are incorporated into the colorwork.

Brooklyn Tweed Foliage Dot Hat

“The Foliage Dot hat employs a unique and interesting stitch pattern that reminds me of autumn leaves. Each “leaf” motif is similar to a bobble, in that several stitches are increased from a single stitch to create each textural leaf. Unlike a bobble, however, the decreasing of these additional stitches is distributed over the following few rounds, rather than being worked all at once. This whimsical stitch pattern provides a great opportunity for creative colorplay. Experiment with incorporating 2, 3, 4 (or more) contrast colors to create unique color stories.

Brooklyn Tweed Weft Hat

Perfect for round, springy yarns with exceptional stitch definition, this hat’s clever stitch pattern mimics woven basketry through the creative use of knits, purls, and yarn overs. This is one of those stitch patterns that gives dramatic results despite using only the most basic of knitting stitches! The deeply textured fabric is balanced with a doubled-ribbed brim that adds squishy comfort and a substantial base for the woven textures that grow from it.

Brooklyn Tweed Cetus

At the junction of agile stitchwork and intuitive fun lies the richly textured Cetus Hat. Here you’ll find a balanced combination of garter stitch and mock cable columns — rather like gilded onlay — growing out of slip stitch ribbing and cable trusses to converge into a relaxed slouch and rosette crown. And for those of you who enjoy clever tricks in your toolbox: a round of knits bisects the ribbing to form a crease that helps the brim turn up for comfortable double-warmth at the ears.

Brooklyn Tweed Kitelines

" This sweet hat pattern features a delicate, geometric stitch worked in two colors that reminds me of little kites. The small bi-color diamonds are formed using a unique ‘dip’ stitch maneuver that creates a subtly textured fabric with tiny eyelets that keep the fabric breathable and light. The hat can be worked in child or adult size, and styled as a standard beanie or blocked over a round form (like a salad plate) for a beret variation. The star-shaped crown design integrates seamlessly into the Kitelines stitch pattern for a sophisticated finish, regardless of your chosen variation.

Brooklyn Tweed Hutchin

A hedge of cables rings this pert cap, then twines organically upward to the crown. Hutchin is worked in the round from a single skein of Loft, but the knitting will keep you on your toes as the cables weave and twist. A tubular cast-on and a band of ribbing make the hat stretchy enough to fit most adult heads. Hutchin’s light fabric makes it a great cap to reach for in the transitional seasons when you need a little extra warmth. Try it in a soft gray or a warm brown as suits your complexion, match it to your eye color, or pay homage to the season with Loft in Embers, Hayloft, or Wool Socks.

While many pi shawls employ only lace patterns, this one focuses on rich texture and motion, drawing the eye from the center outward and then around the circumference of the circle as the chevrons point the way. For gorgeous gift knitting, try Willamette, a deeply textured scarf with a reversible motif of cabled diamonds over garter stitch. Willamette is active knitting with cables on every row, but the geometric motifs are predictable and easy to track. The pattern can be worked in Shelter for oversized coziness or in Loft for a scarf of more traditional scale.

Rhythmic all-over cables in Shelter produce a handsome, seaworthy cap that’s quick and satisfying to knit. Leander begins with twisted rib, morphing into a traveling current of brioche rib shaped to follow a sinuous course by a combination of decorative increases and decreases. Worked in woolen-spun Shelter, Leander makes for a gratifying combination of tactile indulgence and lofty warmth.
