This unfurling botanical pattern has an air of formality that owes not just to its classical motif but also to its very special texture. Made using a heritage French weaving technique called Liser é , this fabric uses our artisan-dyed warp yarn for the ground and a combination of two mercerized cotton yarns and a slub rayon yarn for the raised vine design. Rebecca painted the original artwork while working on a series of ideas for florals and drew inspiration for this iteration from the pop of color wildflowers bring to a grassy field and the charm of city flowers that manage to bloom through a crack in the concrete. Use this fabric indoors or out. Throughout the years, Rebecca has explored long curved shapes in various ways and frequently doodled them in the corners of her notebooks. When she began to play with this linear shape for a woven, she explored how it could capture the way a breeze ripples through the spring air. By repeating this simple mark in varying darkness, she creates a pattern with movement. Some marks sink back into the ground of the cloth, where others pop against the background.

This pattern was created from an original painting from Rebecca’s sketchbook, which like many of her designs, began as a mark-making exercise. Creating a motif from small dashes and dots is a simple practice that can start on the corner of a notebook during a meeting or a warm-up practice for a painting session. While mark-making is often an exercise Rebecca uses to center herself in the present moment, the results often become the seed of a new design. The radiating lines of this deconstructed floral shape feel celebratory and are sure to bring joy to any space.
