Jaybird is an oversized pullover worked by holding two strands of Wren together throughout its simple, yet interesting construction. The center and back panels are worked using reverse stockinette stitch. Each side body and sleeve piece is worked in traditional stockinette from stitches picked up along one side of the assembled center panels. One can never have enough garter stitch. In this swingy open cardigan, garter-stitch borders are knitted in as you go. The body has slight A-line shaping, and the extended shoulders are slanted with short rows and joined with wrong sides together using the 3-needle bind off. The back neck is narrow, so the cardi stays put, even without buttons. Sleeves are knitted from armhole to cuff, so make them as long or as short as you like. Cushy Cheviot yarn makes garter ridges pop and gives stockinette stitch a whole lot of character.

Leaves is a drapey, open shawl with a deep border knit with fingering weight Sparrow . The piece begins at its pointy end with a lacy leaf border. After three sections of the border pattern are established, the edging diverges into the side borders and the garter stitch body fills in between them. You can easily lengthen or shorten the shawl by working more or fewer repeats of the left and right edge charts.
