Brooklyn Tweed Rambler
A garland of embossed foliage makes a pretty beret to wear hiking in the hills or returning to the city. In the capable hands of cable whisperer Irina Dmitrieva, botanical inspiration translates to a rhythmic, dancing, distinctive motif. Worked from a tubular cast-on for a durable and professional edge, Rambler’s ribbed brim quickly begins to twist into cabled vines that sprout leaves and sweep up to a star-shaped crown. The elasticity of the ribs will accommodate nearly any adult head. Knit from a single skein of Shelter, Rambler is ideal for holiday gifts.

Brooklyn Tweed Forge
This deeply textured watchcap has a twist: the cabled fabric adorning the main body of the hat is mirrored on the faux fold-over brim. The shape of the crown and the classic OXO cable motifs are a nostalgic nod to the woolen workwear of fishermen. Forge is worked from the top down, so you can customize the finished length to form an elfin peak or a close beanie fit. Brim and body are worked separately and joined with a clean, decorative bind-off around the hat’s base.

Brooklyn Tweed Lorient
Welcome the weekend in a casual top-down pullover worked in fisherman’s rib. Joji always finds a way to put a playful, transformative touch on a classic garment; here a brocade of basketweave cables accents the raglan shoulders. Lorient is worked top down; after a tubular neckband and set of short rows to raise the back of the sweater, circular knitting and a straight torso let you relax into the meditative rhythm of the stitch pattern. Single-rib edge treatments finish Lorient in understated style.

Brooklyn Tweed Foliage Dot Hat
“The Foliage Dot hat employs a unique and interesting stitch pattern that reminds me of autumn leaves. Each “leaf” motif is similar to a bobble, in that several stitches are increased from a single stitch to create each textural leaf. Unlike a bobble, however, the decreasing of these additional stitches is distributed over the following few rounds, rather than being worked all at once. This whimsical stitch pattern provides a great opportunity for creative colorplay. Experiment with incorporating 2, 3, 4 (or more) contrast colors to create unique color stories.

Brooklyn Tweed Svalbard
“This cardigan was inspired by a desire to play with volume and drape in combination with a strong, architectural stitch pattern and clean, flattering details. The deep, bell-like swoop of the bottom hem is balanced by the tailored shoulders and three-quarter length sleeves, and both are complimented by the soft falls of the fronts and shawl collar. Add to this an interesting take on traditional raglan shaping, and you have a cardigan that’s both intriguing to knit and effortless to wear!” – Bristol Ivy Designer: Bristol Ivy Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Brooklyn Tweed Bowen
With endless possibilities to be worn alone or layered, Julie takes a classic folded collar turtleneck and transforms it into something much more fun and quirky. A wide sweater with a fitted shoulder creates the perfect comfort sweater. Viewed from the side, the offset hem comes as a little surprise and offers a flattering length in the back without creating extra bulk in the front. The allover double seed stitch texture is soft and supple and allows the garment’s modern shape to take focus. Designer: Julie Hoover Collection: Fall…

Keep your hands warm during chilly morning walks with the Marquam mittens. The fully faced cuff of this classic ski-style accessory, charted for three sizes, wards off even the stiffest of breezes while adding stability to the ribbed outer fabric. Choosing your colors for this project will be a joy as Arbor’s breadth of jewel tones and soothing neutrals lend themselves brilliantly to the spherical colorwork motif, which can be worked in either two or four colors. Brooklyn Tweed Gyre
Inspired by a line of poetry from William Butler Yeats, this modern honeycomb lace stole is distinguished by rays of stockinette bursting from one corner. Bristol Ivy is known for garments and accessories with innovative, geometric forms, such as Thorn (Wool People 4), Svalbard (Wool People 6), and Keel (Wool People 8). Now she gives us an inversion of the positive and negative space relationships often found in asymmetric shawls. Gyre is worked entirely from charts in three skeins of Loft; choose a bright, fresh hue for the perfect summer accessory.

Brooklyn Tweed Umaro
The Umaro blanket combines a little bit of everything — cables, lace, and knit-purl patterns — to create a veritable symphony of texture that is every bit as soothing to knit as it is inviting to curl up under. Yarnovers and directional decreases grow into and out of staggered cables to form an allover pattern of intricate diamonds, while seed stitch around the blanket and within the geometric motifs serves as a soft and pebbly contrast.

Brooklyn Tweed League
Color blocking achieves stylish new heights in this sporty pullover. The front and back are worked flat in intarsia, with increases and decreases on either side of the color change to achieve a faux-raglan effect. Saddle-shoulder sleeves are knit flat in a third color of Loft. The subtlest of A-line shapes gives League a neat fit that still allows layering over collared shirts. We chose soothing neutrals— Stormcloud, Sweatshirt, and Soot — for our sample, but adding a pop of bright color would amplify this garment’s playful side. Tallow, Camper, and Barn Owl, perhaps?

“Conceptually, I wanted this hat to be as big and chunky as possible – making a statement without becoming a helmet. I kept adding more and more strands of yarn (ultimately using four) to achieve just the right fabric I was after. A turned-hem brim and simple cable repeat completes the look. Brooklyn Tweed Fade
The clean shape of this classic slouchy cap is the perfect canvas for a beautiful ombre fabric. The marled gradient is formed by working with double- stranded yarn that alternates between 3 consecutive values of color. For a bold gradient effect, choose 3 colors that are equally spaced on the value scale (light, medium and dark), or for a more subtle shift choose three similar values that have subtle shifts in color. In our brown sample we started with the lightest value so the hat darkens towards the crown; swapping color 1 and 3 will reverse the direction of the gradient.

“My favorite hats are the ones I grab and throw on over and over again – those that pair easily with a wide variety of looks. When I created this design, I was thinking about a hat that would fit these criteria. And what guy doesn’t like having a classic cabled beanie (or two) in his closet? Worked in a fingering weight yarn, this cap stays light and comfortable while still being warm and stylish. The addition of a gathered crown and slightly slouchy silhouette gives a modern touch to this iconic style.

Brooklyn Tweed St. Léger
“The limestone cliffs in the northern Vaucluse region of France are a world-class climbing destination. Alternately called St Léger and La Baleine (French for “the whale”), it is a massive curving wall of brown and grey rock with deceptively simple-looking routes. I can’t count the number of times I’ve fallen off a project, lunging for what looked like a decent handhold and turned out to be a nubbin, or nothing at all.

Blume is a classic pullover perching serenely in a comfortable spot between oversized and fitted. Its fabric features rippling cables surrounding purls on a predominantly stockinette body, rather like marbled rock or traveling vines. Brooklyn Tweed Kirkwood
This classic scarf looks great on men or women and its ample size makes for a luxurious, cozy feel. During our initial design meetings, Julie decided she liked the WS of the texture pattern as much as the RS, so we included instructions for each version. Our samples showcase both variations, as well as two yarn options – the Fossil version is knit with Shelter and creates a softer, more pliable fabric, while the Wool Socks version is knit with Loft doubled for enhanced stitch definition and elasticity. Kirkwood is a no-brainer addition to our favorite winter staples!

Brooklyn Tweed Vela
Allover texture and an A-line shape give this Loft pullover effortless style. A subtle Eye of Partridge pattern—usually seen in sock heels—lends interest to the skirt and sleeve fabric, while a garter slip stitch creates a woven effect for the bodice. Vela begins with the front and back yoke worked flat; stitches for the lower body and sleeves are picked up purlwise to expose the selvedge and worked downward in the round. A delicate neckband is worked in slipped-stitch stockinette after seaming. The result is a graceful, seasonless layering piece that’s easy to dress up or down.
