The Tumwater Collection celebrates the earthy textures and expressive glazes of mid-century studio pottery, blending the warmth of vintage California pottery with the clean sensibility of Northwest Modern design. Each piece is handcrafted locally from opaque stoneware, then finished with a white gloss glaze that is carefully wiped back to reveal a rich, two-tone design with depth, character, and an unmistakably artisanal quality. Namesake: Noor Inayat Khan (1914-1944) was a British spy in WWII. She was the daughter of an Indian father and an American mother. The exclusive Japanese washi paper shades are handcrafted for us by a 90-year-old chōchin lantern atelier in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan—a region renowned for its washi paper heritage. Made from thick, premium washi, each shade embodies the depth and elegance of Japanese artistry. Every Kakishibu shade is made from sheets of washi that have been hand-dyed with traditional kakishibu dye and then painted with black sumi ink and white pigment in an abstract pattern.
