Like all silicone valve lids, these are not 100% one-way valves. During fermentation, negative pressure can sometimes form inside the jar, causing the lid to cave in slightly. In some cases, a small amount of air may enter the jar, or you may need to pinch the valve to equalize the pressure. While this small increase in risk compared to rigid airlocks is not ideal, our testing shows it has minimal impact on the overall success of the ferment. Reduced Risk of Contamination: These lids help greatly reduce the chances chances of mold or kahm yeast developing during fermentation.

Using an airlock when you are fermenting vegetables in Mason jars will keep out oxygen while still letting the CO2 produced escape. An airlock greatly reduces the chances of a moldy ferment. If you use an airlock plus one of our glass fermentation weights to keep your ferment under the brine there is little chance of mold. Fill the airlock halfway with clean water, vodka, or sanitizer solution and stick it into your fermenting lid. Our silicone fermenting lids will accept this airlock as is, but other lids might need some kind of drilled rubber stopper or grommet.

These cork lids will really make your jars pop! Cork is a natural material so colors vary slightly. The regular mouth corks are 62.5mm at the top and 58mm at the bottom. The wide mouth corks are 76mm at the top and 72mm at the bottom. They are both 28mm thick. Food safe. Made by forming small bits of cork with steam and pressure, the same way that composite wine corks are made.
