A symphony of cables, lace, and wale stitches make up this delicate pair of socks inspired by ornamental gables and trusses. Decorating the ankle are pillars of chevron lace — flanked by serpentine wale stitches and mirrored cables — that continue to the top of the foot while branching out at the back of the ankle to accommodate a slipped-stitch heel flap. A short row heel turn ensures comfortable fit; double decreases shape the gusset for functional grace; and a round toe completes the prim picture.

Brooklyn Tweed Oban
For distinctive tailored style, knit a sleek coat with a flared peplum and handkerchief hem. Twisted rib and ladder motifs create long, flattering lines on the flat-knit fronts and center back. A twisted-rib cable with a self facing folded inside and sewn down provides a decorative and stable edge for the snap closures, and a swing-coat style collar in twisted rib makes a clean and structural finish. The peplum, a simple rectangle with I-cord selvedges, is worked from stitches picked up after garment assembly.

Brooklyn Tweed Ravensfoot
This hat features a textural lace fabric, a slouchy silhouette and an intermittent cabled rib adorning the band. The pattern for the main portion of the hat changes its total stitch count as it is worked, which contributes to the overall texture. When measuring your gauge, it is easiest to measure in “Ravenfoot” motifs (four stitches wide on Rows 5 and 11 of chart), rather than individual stitches. Designer: Leila Raven Collection: Spring…

Brooklyn Tweed Haskell
Haskell is a slightly cocoon-shaped cardigan bequeathing comfort to its wearer whether lounging or knocking about through cottage garden paths. An expanse of shifting broken rib surrounds panels of beaded cables for texture that is a delight to knit in pillowy Quarry — and all the more fascinating to watch as shadows are cast over the interplay of knits and purls giving the appearance of woven tweed from afar. Trimmed by garter stitch at the hem, yoke, and shaped collar, Haskell is the epitome of a knitterly hug. This cardigan is worked flat, in pieces, from the bottom up, then sewn together.

Brooklyn Tweed Kierson
Delicate cables braided into loose diamonds appear to float lightly above furrows of hearty garter stitch. Wide garter bands, worked at a denser gauge, finish the edges and broaden into a petite shawl collar for a look that’s both tailored and rustic. The body is worked flat in a single piece to the underarms, then divided to knit the fronts and back. The sleeves are also knit flat and set in.

Brooklyn Tweed High Pines Cowl
Branching half-twisted rib and knit-purl texture shifts combine to decorate this shaped cowl with stitchwork that conjures alpine evergreens. Columns of clustered stitches that are decreased and then restored in the same maneuver punctuate the motifs, which subtly diminish toward the top edge for a fit that’s wider at the shoulders and slightly closer about the neck. Brooklyn Tweed Cobblestone
Cobblestone pays homage to the humble and textural beauty of garter stitch. Jared Flood’s first garment design celebrates simple, timeless details: a round yoke, subtle ridged side panels, and garter edges. The all-garter yoke lends visual weight to the shoulders while short rows raise the back for a comfortable fit. The intuitive, seamless construction worked from the bottom-up hews to the principles of Elizabeth Zimmermann and makes for a knitting experience as comforting as a cup of hot tea.

Brooklyn Tweed Collomia
The on-trend silhouette of the Collomia pullover offers a dramatic canvas for a timeless stranded colorwork yoke. The woolen-spun texture of Shelter yarn softens the bold stripes and ornate snowflake motifs. With seams only at the underarms and knit at a worsted gauge, Collomia is just as alluring to knit as it is to wear. Knit from the bottom up, the front and back of Collomia are cast on separately for the split hem, then joined knit circularly in one piece. The colorful yoke is worked in the round.

Brooklyn Tweed Auden
“This design draws inspiration from both the new and old. I was intrigued by the modernity and drape of an oversized dolman tee, and I also loved the soft femininity of the simple, delicate prints of liberty cotton and vintage summer dresses. This pullover combines the two into the best of both worlds: a gentle, fern-like, allover cable motif joins with a loose and wonderfully drapey shape to create the perfect spring or summer sweater.” – Bristol Ivy Designer: Bristol Ivy Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Brooklyn Tweed Natsumi
Worked left to right from a provisional cast on, this pullover showcases a single bold cable flanked by delicate eyelets. The gracefully curved back hem and shoulders are shaped as you knit the body, and the three-quarter length sleeves are worked flat and top-down from live stitches. After joining the two sides and seaming the sleeves, the ribbed hem is then picked up and knit to complete the garment.

Brooklyn Tweed Rook
“During the design process, my aim was to create a timeless garment containing both traditional and modern features. I chose a diamond motif with moss stitch that I saw in a fisherman’s sweater because not only is it a beautifully textured stitch, but I can also use it either as a single line of diamonds (as in the sleeve) or a line of multiple diamonds (as in the body). Instead of having a traditional vertical line of purl stitches on either side, I used stockinette stitch to encircle the motif to keep the whole design clean and simple. The sweater is knit top down.

Brooklyn Tweed Chenier
Coastal knotwork intersects academic cables in Chenier’s elegant composition. Innovative braids frame the central iterations of this elevated vest, creating balance between the high tucked-rib neckline and the swingy split hem. Equally at home penning poems on a craggy coastline as nursing a cup of tea in front of a toasty fire, Chenier works wonderfully into your lifestyle in any of Arbor’s luxe colorways. Brooklyn Tweed Rock Island
A ribbon of zigzag lace with a yarnover selvedge forms the foundation for this pretty triangular shawl. Stitches picked up from the yarnovers take a few steadying ridges of garter stitch while decreases are established at the edges and spine, then begin to intermingle in a traditional two-sided lace pattern before relaxing into an ever-diminishing field of garter. This perfect balance of focused effort and straightforward plain knitting has made Rock Island an enduring favorite in the Brooklyn Tweed archives. Designer: Jared Flood Collection: Classics ; Vale…

Brooklyn Tweed Mason
A snuggly cowl with simple but striking stitchwork makes the perfect deep winter accessory. Tailor Mason to your climate by selecting a double-stranded version for serious warmth or working with a single strand for a cowl appropriate to milder weather. Both Masons use ridges of a contrast color interrupted by slipped stitches for a woven effect that’s eye catching but simple to execute. A funnel shape improves the fit, and single-rib tubular edges provide an elastic and professional finish. Designer: Julie Hoover Collection: Winter…

Brooklyn Tweed Hague
Corrugated texture provides a trellis for twining cables at the center front and back. Hague sports a boxy silhouette with a bateau neck and exaggerated drop shoulders that create a chevron detail where the welts meet at the seam line. This pullover is a quick knit in chunky Quarry, and the bold texture of this garment means the motifs won’t be lost in our darker colors. The sample is shown in Slate, but Lazulite and even Obsidian would be handsome choices, too. Designer: Michele Wang Collection: CAPSULE | Michele…

Brooklyn Tweed Roko
"The thick strands of both Arbor Lodge and Quarry are ideal for oversized cables and this quality was the starting inspiration point for this vest. Invested with a heavy dose of classic fisherman sweater vibes, these cables are plumped up to an almost cartoonish degree, and lend a light-hearted air to an easy-going layering piece." — designer, Lis Smith Quarry Barn Owl sample photographed with Grooves Cap by Jared Flood. Brooklyn Tweed Willamette
For gorgeous gift knitting, try Willamette, a deeply textured scarf with a reversible motif of cabled diamonds over garter stitch. There’s a chart for the A side and another for the B side; alternate knitting a row from each and you’ll end up with a beautifully patterned fabric that’s different but equally arresting on both sides. Willamette is active knitting with cables on every row, but the geometric motifs are predictable and easy to track. The pattern can be worked in Shelter for oversized coziness or in Loft for a scarf of more traditional scale.

Brooklyn Tweed Counterpane
For knitters who love a geometric puzzle, this study in modular asymmetry will keep the brain and the needles busy. Constructed in squares and triangles worked from the edges inward, Counterpane uses bands of stockinette, garter, and brioche to create three-dimensional texture as well as arresting diagonal lines. Each section is worked on stitches picked up from the previous square and newly cast on. The sleeve cuffs achieve a subtle bloused form by echoing the brioche and garter bands of the blocks.
