Cable patterns deliver a lot of drama with little effort, especially when worked in chunky, squishy Puffin . This substantial cardigan uses traditional cables that are part of the basic crossed stitch lexicon. When worked together with only a few stitches in between panels, Quirpon’s cables create bold, curving textures that grab attention. Go to Puffin Collection.

Puffin ’s round structure and substantial heft make it an excellent yarn for cable patterns; Miquelon takes full advantage of those qualities, featuring a central ribbed cable and twisted stitch motif that leaps out in strong relief from the subtly textured background of reverse stockinette. Pam Allen wadham
Cables and textures are absolutely scrumptious worked in a chunky, round yarn like Puffin — but as striking as these stitches are in a substantial yarn, the simple elegance of stockinette stitch in Puffin just can’t be beat. Pam Allen shows off Puffin’s natural beauty in this minimal top-down pullover, using extra-large needles to create the drape and softness of Wadham’s puffed sleeves. Go to Puffin Collection.

Pam Allen oderin
This cozy pullover features a pair of interrupted, branching cables on the front — one of our favorites from Barbara Walker’s stitch dictionaries, especially when worked in Puffin . Worked from the bottom-up, Oderin has a slight A-line silhouette, with shaping cleverly placed in between the two bold cables. Minimal and unfussy, Oderin is completely seamless and sports unfinished edges and a simple garter stitch neckband. Go to Puffin Collection.

Stone Wool dunedin
Few stitch patterns provide as much satisfaction as simple knit-and-purl combinations, especially when worked in a plump, round yarn like Stone Wool Corriedale. The contrast between purl bumps and flat Vs stands out nicely. This pullover started out as a kind of sampler, with same-size bands of the different stitch patterns, but it ended up using an elongated check pattern for the entire body and a smaller broken rib pattern in the yoke. One never knows where an idea will lead. If you love knit-and-purl patterns as much as I do, feel free to substitute your favorites for the ones in Dunedin.
