The exclusive Japanese washi paper shades are handcrafted for us by a 90-year-old chōchin lantern atelier in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan—a region renowned for its washi paper heritage. Made from thick, premium washi, each shade embodies the depth and elegance of Japanese artistry. Every Kakishibu shade is made from sheets of washi that have been hand-dyed with traditional kakishibu dye and then painted with black sumi ink and white pigment in an abstract pattern.

Namesake: Noor Inayat Khan (1914-1944) was a British spy in WWII. She was the daughter of an Indian father and an American mother. Forever a flower child, the Ikebana collection evolved from the minimalist ceramic stands studio founder Michelle Aaro made to display sprigs gathered from summer walks. Dried botanicals gave way to hand-sculpted flowers, a nod to the 70s copper sculptures from her childhood and her love of metalsmithing.
