This shawl combines classic knit-purl patterning (quoting Guernsey sweaters traditionally worn by Fishermen in the northern European Isles) with a more modern, wearable shape. The Guernsey Triangle is a lightweight companion piece to the rectangular Guernsey Wrap that I designed in the Fall of 2010. Two sizes have been provided: the small version – a wool kerchief – can be easily worn alone over a shirt or blouse, or layered outerwear; the large shawl version may be comfortably wrapped around the shoulders or gathered around the neck for a look with more volume.

Brooklyn Tweed Shoal
Plot your course with Shoal, an ever familiar triangular shawl made anew with a unique asymmetrical side-to-side construction. Then, watch seas of garter stitch, plunging waves, and the wings of waterfowl come together in a beautiful triumvirate, balancing textural and openwork stitches for a beautiful seascape to drape about your shoulders. This shawl is worked flat from the upper right point to the opposite side; the lace motif is worked from charts only. The Vale and Peerie versions are worked from the same charts and instructions, at differing gauges.

Brooklyn Tweed Brora
This distinctive shawl, printed all over with triangles of garter stitch, can be worked in two weights. Knit a breezy complement to summer dresses in Vale or a slightly larger triangle with comforting weight and warmth in Arbor. The arrowhead lace edging combines garter stitch and eyelets to achieve a flintknapped texture. The pattern teaches the Icelandic Bind Off technique to yield an elastic edge that partners effectively with garter stitch. Designer: Gudrun Johnston Collection…

Partner to the Burnaby hat, this timeless triangle of cozy cables and textured stitches is a satisfying knit. Worked from the trailing edge upward, the shawl will seem to go faster and faster, and straightforward design makes it a good project to knit with company or while settled in with a favorite movie. Wide bands of garter stitch, simple cables, and seeded tree forms inspired by fishermen’s ganseys look sophisticated in a neutral tinged with color like Gale (shown), Thaw, or Morandi. Brooklyn Tweed Kierson
Delicate cables braided into loose diamonds appear to float lightly above furrows of hearty garter stitch. Wide garter bands, worked at a denser gauge, finish the edges and broaden into a petite shawl collar for a look that’s both tailored and rustic. The body is worked flat in a single piece to the underarms, then divided to knit the fronts and back. The sleeves are also knit flat and set in.

Brooklyn Tweed Sakura
A woolly triangular shawl in a lightweight fabric is a great accessory to have on hand. We like to wear them bunched up around the neck, with volume, like a scarf. The stitch patterns incorporated in this design allow the fabric to be decorative, without being overly lacey. Here yarn and pattern combine to create a warm accessory that is both beautiful and functional. Designer: Leila Raven Collection: Loft…

Brooklyn Tweed Kindling
This deep and well-proportioned triangle shawl works outward from a twisted-stitch variation of a traditional garter tab. Textured arrows of reverse stockinette flow down both sides into a unique four-stitch textured border that is also reflected around the center spine. Originally written for use with a double strand of Loft or a single strand of Shelter, Kindling is a light and rustic layer to float over a winter coat.

Brooklyn Tweed Grist Pullover
"Grist offers a restrained take on traditional fishing sweaters, featuring ribbed shoulder epaulets and delicate, allover banded patterns that recall favorite ganseys of old. Despite its relaxed nature, the boxy silhouette cleverly conceals shaping details that preserve a flattering proportion and fit. Deep, sloping shoulder lines prevent the upper yoke from being overwhelmed with excess fabric, while optional subtle body shaping tailors the fit of the lower body.

Brooklyn Tweed Fairweather
This playful, feminine pullover in Shelter features an airy, flared skirt that visually narrows the hips. Traditional lace motifs leaven the classic gansey texture of cables and moss stitch. The body is worked in the round to the underarms; the upper front and back are knit flat. Exaggerated drop shoulders create an embellishment at the upper arm, and since the sleeves are worked downward, the braided cable appears to flow down to the cuff instead of climbing. Short-row gussets with fashioned decreases shape the upper shoulders and neckline.

Brooklyn Tweed Reversi
" The Reversi Shawl is a generous wrap with a distinctive two-sided stitch pattern, vertical stripes on one face and horizontal stripes on the other, and looks equally polished from any angle. The graphic patterning is made from knits, purls, and slip stitches in highly contrasting colors; choose hues closer to each other for a softer effect. Starting from a ribbed base, the body of the shawl is knit in the Reversi slipped-stitch pattern, with accent stripes and corded selvedges, decreasing every other row to the shawl point.

Brooklyn Tweed Leaves of Grass
A good Pi Shawl is always welcome in my knitting bag. This type of construction, developed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in the 1950’s, is a perfect balance between mindless and attentive knitting. Upon completion of Chart A, the entire shawl will have only 4 total shaping rounds remaining. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this project will fly off your needles! Named after the stunning collection of poetry by American poet Walt Whitman, these pretty motifs remind me of the Spring Thaw and the plant life that returns after Winter’s end. Brooklyn Tweed Riverbend
A boxy, open-gauge cardigan in Quarry: the ultimate in slouchy comfort that doesn’t sacrifice good looks. Riverbend’s hem is shaped with short rows so that the back is several inches longer than the cropped fronts. The deep V of the neckline makes it easy to layer. All pieces are knit flat, and we chose to assemble them with the purl side facing out, but instructions are also given for exposing the traditional knit side if you prefer. Two options are given for resolving the short rows so that they’ll be least visible on the public side of your garment, whichever side you’d like that to be.

Sleek saddle shoulders are cleverly worked in the round from the top down, allowing you to try on as you go for a perfect fit. Striking braided trim lets your personal style shine — go bold with a contrasting color as we’ve done, or choose a single color to highlight the luxurious layers of texture in soft and springy Peerie. Brooklyn Tweed Trestle
“I love chevrons! I cannot get enough. I particularly love how they distort a seemingly straightforward row of knitting into spectacular peaks and valleys. Pair a chevron with the humble stripe and boom! My knitter’s heart beats a little faster. Taking into account that chevrons don’t make a rectangular shape on their own, I have helped them out by filling in the corners. This creates a few extra pieces to knit to make a shape that resembles a sweater, but the end result is a garment that is interesting to knit. Interesting to knit while being all knit!

Brooklyn Tweed Leander
Leander begins with twisted rib, morphing into a traveling current of brioche rib shaped to follow a sinuous course by a combination of decorative increases and decreases. This directional shaping also lends gentle curves along the scarf’s outer edges, fluidly framing the neck and the shoulders when draped. Worked in woolen-spun Shelter, Leander makes for a gratifying combination of tactile indulgence and lofty warmth. This scarf is worked in two pieces, each from the cast-on edge to the center; the pieces are then joined. The long edges are finished with a knit-in I-cord edging.

Brooklyn Tweed Auden
“This design draws inspiration from both the new and old. I was intrigued by the modernity and drape of an oversized dolman tee, and I also loved the soft femininity of the simple, delicate prints of liberty cotton and vintage summer dresses. This pullover combines the two into the best of both worlds: a gentle, fern-like, allover cable motif joins with a loose and wonderfully drapey shape to create the perfect spring or summer sweater.” – Bristol Ivy Designer: Bristol Ivy Collection: Wool People, Volume…

Brooklyn Tweed Douro
Light and lofty brioche stitch makes the ideal wrap or lap blanket. Douro explores the possibilities of traveling lines in brioche, wandering from symmetry to asymmetry and back to regular ribs. The two halves culminate in a band of garter stitch fused at the center spine with the Joinery Bind-Off. Worked from written instructions, this pattern is a good way to step up from basic brioche knitting. Designer: Norah Gaughan Collection: Winter…

Brooklyn Tweed Loess
“The inspiration for Loess came from my life on Île de Ré, an island off the west coast of France — very wild and natural, with a little smell of sea spray. This stole is light, soft, and worked with bands of crisply defined patterning.” – Christine de Castelbajac Riffles of openwork and crossed stitches punctuate the smooth surface of stockinette in this elegant, modern scarf. The pattern offers two sizes, a small scarf and a generous wrap.
