Our Maru collection unites iconic Eastern and Western lighting traditions through thoughtful design and authentic craftsmanship. The exclusive Japanese washi paper shades are handcrafted for us by a 90-year-old chōchin lantern atelier in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan—a region renowned for its washi paper heritage. Made from thick, premium washi, each shade embodies the depth and elegance of Japanese artistry. Every Kakishibu shade is made from sheets of washi that have been hand-dyed with traditional kakishibu dye and then painted with black sumi ink and white pigment in an abstract pattern.

Traditionally used as a suffix for ships' names, maru conveys wishes for good fortune and safe passage. Our Maru Moon Lamp is handcrafted in Gifu, Japan, by a century-old lantern maker. Made with authentic creamy colored washi paper, it emits a soft, soothing glow that brings warmth and harmony to any space.

A handmade, 100% naturally-derived Japanese taper candle. A truly unique candle made by hand from natural sumac HAZE (pronounced hah-zay), a type of scarce wax found only in East Asia. The wider the candle becomes, the larger the flame it produces, illuminating your space with less, for longer. The process of building these candles layer-by-layer can be likened to rings on a tree. The flame tends to be larger in size and has a distinct 'tremor.' Pairs well with a leather-bound book, whiskey neat, and the Cast Iron Candle Holder.
