Simple cable patterns are such a pleasure to knit. This long cowl will knit up surprisingly fast as you get into the gentle rhythm, working a cable row every 4 rows. Wear it breezy and long or wrap it twice so cables can be close to your neck and face! This cowl is a super-plush and quick knit in Aran-weight Osprey.

A brief and pretty cowl is a wonderful thing. Abol is worked up quickly in our Aran weight Osprey , knitted flat and buttoned at the edges. An i-cord bind off that forms the buttonholes is just one of the fun details in the making of this piece.

Brooklyn Tweed Furl

Brooklyn Tweed Furl

There’s no wrong way to wear this textural cowl. The pattern of garter cluster stitches creates energetic ripples on one side and bubbles on the other. The clusters form over seven rows with the stitch count expanding and then gathering back in, which keeps the knitting adventurous but well within the abilities of the bright-eyed intermediate. Furl is worked in the round with tubular edge treatments and can be worn loose about the neck or with an extra wrap to keep your throat warm.

Brooklyn Tweed Furrow Cowl

Curl up in this plush, oversized cowl on chilly days. Furrow’s simple stitches make for easy knitting, and a gentle bell shape — achieved by decreases within the moss stitch segments — makes styling effortless. Knit to 18″ tall, the cowl drapes and folds elegantly, but it can be shortened if you prefer less volume or wish to use a smaller amount of yarn. Pair it with Furrow Hat for a matched set of accessories. This pattern was published as part of Jared Flood’s first print book, WOOLENS. You can also purchase all patterns in this collection as an ebook .

Branching half-twisted rib and knit-purl texture shifts combine to decorate this shaped cowl with stitchwork that conjures alpine evergreens. Columns of clustered stitches that are decreased and then restored in the same maneuver punctuate the motifs, which subtly diminish toward the top edge for a fit that’s wider at the shoulders and slightly closer about the neck. Stone Wool dunedin

Few stitch patterns provide as much satisfaction as simple knit-and-purl combinations, especially when worked in a plump, round yarn like Stone Wool Corriedale. The contrast between purl bumps and flat Vs stands out nicely. This pullover started out as a kind of sampler, with same-size bands of the different stitch patterns, but it ended up using an elongated check pattern for the entire body and a smaller broken rib pattern in the yoke. One never knows where an idea will lead. If you love knit-and-purl patterns as much as I do, feel free to substitute your favorites for the ones in Dunedin.
